Heart of Lanchester is a cosy cottage dating back to the early 1900s and occupies a great position overlooking the village green and church. Warm and welcoming, the cottage has a traditional feel with a comfortable living room and well-equipped kitchen on the ground floor. On the first floor there is a well presented double bedroom with a kingsize bed and views out across to the church. There is also a single bedroom on the first floor which makes the cottage perfect for small families as well as couples. The first floor bathroom is well-presented and has a bath with a shower over. The small garden to the rear is pretty and quiet and has a small table and chairs.Situated in the beautiful village of Lanchester just 8 miles west of Durham, guests will find a super selection of places to eat including an Italian restaurant, a fish and chip shop and three local pubs as well as numerous shops and cafés, which are all within walking distance. Also a great little spot for guests who enjoy walking and cycling, there are many public footpaths that pass through Lanchester and a very popular walk along the banks of the River Browney. For guests wanting to enjoy a more taxing walk or ramble, Lanchester is only a half an hour drive away from the beautiful hills and countryside of both Weardale and Teesdale and the Northumberland National Park, and Hadrian’s Wall can be reached in just under an hour. For keen cyclists, the Derwent Valley Railway path is close by and heads east towards the outskirts of Durham, as well as the Waskerley Way cycle path which heads west towards the open countryside of Weardale.Just a short drive away from the cathedral city of Durham, guests will find Heart of Lanchester the perfect location for visiting friends and family who are studying at Durham University. Perfect for graduation ceremonies, taster weeks and just checking out the area, the university campuses are all within a 10-mile radius from the cottage. Guests must also take the time to explore Durham itself as there is always something happening at any time of year. The Lumiere Festival which takes place every two years, really cannot be missed and makes for the perfect weekend away in November. During the summer and autumn months guests will be able to enjoy the annual jazz festival, arts festival, brass week, book week, Miner’s Gala and poetry festival as well as the regular street artists and musicians that the city is famous for.To the north of Lanchester, guests will be able to visit the popular market town of Corbridge with its riverside walks and popular bistros and cafés, which is only 16 miles away, Hexham with its abbey and gaol is 23 miles away, Newcastle-upon-Tyne 15 miles away, Gateshead and the Metrocentre 13 miles and the Beamish Living Museum is 8 miles away. Heart of Lanchester is situated only a short drive away from Bishop Auckland which will play host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches Spectacular from July to September 2017. Kynren - an epic tale of England, is set to be a historical extravaganza with a cast of over 1000 people and set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. It promises 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full-size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making a true spectacle in every sense of the word!
