Located towards the northern end of the beautiful Isle of Skye, Hauki (Finnish for pike), enjoys a peaceful setting within the small scattered community of Feriniquarrie, close to Glendale. This architect designed, detached holiday property has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard, and benefits from an open plan design with cosy underfloor heating, beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows to the front, and a large wood burner to sit by in the winter nights. Glendale is a lovely walking area and offers some specialist craft studios, a seasonal café and restaurant, which is open from early May-mid October.
Just a short walk from Hauki you will come to the shores of the Loch Pooltiel, which leads out to The Little Minch and on to the Outer Hebrides. Dunvegan is just a short drive away where you will find the historic Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, and the pristine coral beaches. From Dunvegan you can take boat trips out to see the seal colonies, or visit Talisker Bay, Glen Brittle Beach, the Fairy Pools and Talisker Distillery on the Minginish Peninsula. On the east side of the island you will find the ‘capital’ of Skye, Portree, where there are many local amenities such as shops and bars, along with fishing and sea trips from the colourful harbour area. To the north of Portree is the Trotternish Peninsula which boasts some of Skye’s most stunning and dramatic scenery. To the south of the island is Broadford, with the southern tip, The Garden of Skye, where you can visit the ruins of Armadale Castle and its lovely gardens.
The island is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. There is walking and climbing on The Cuillins and Macleod’s Tables, as well as many interesting walks and mountain bike trails scattered on the island. Boat trips are available where you can perhaps catch a glimpse of the sea eagles and seal colonies. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing and pony trekking are available nearby, as well as superb opportunities for keen wildlife photographers. Beach ¼ mile. Shop ½ mile, pub 15 miles and restaurant 1½ miles.
