This 1880s fisherman’s cottage has been redeveloped into a contemporary, duplex apartment. Set over two-stories, Hatties House is perfectly situated just a 2-minute stroll from the heart of the bustling town of Whitby. With a cosy coal-effect fire and a terrace area, it is ideal for small families or a couple wanting a place to relax in comfort after a day at the beach or exploring the natural beauty of the North York Moors National Park. The property offers Smart TVs and USB sockets throughout, as well as a contemporary and well equipped kitchen. There is even a hairdressers and beauty salon right on your doorstep if you wish to pamper yourself.
Whitby has so much to offer all year round and is a very popular place to visit with its regular festivals and events such as the Whitby Regatta and the bi-annual Goth Weekend. There is a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops and famous fish and chip shops. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning Whitby Abbey and St Mary’s Church, accessed by 199 steps which were made famous by the novel ’Dracula’. Here, on the cliff top, you can see enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. Whitby has a golden sandy beach, as well as a marina where you can charter your own boat or join a trip out to sea to do a spot of whale watching. There are many pretty resorts dotted along the coast including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay which are great for exploring our maritime history including Captain James Cook, smugglers and pirates.
The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, and many walks can be accessed from your doorstep including a riverside walk along the River Esk and a lovely coastal walk along the disused railway line between Whitby and Scarborough, known as the Cinder Track. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Falling Foss Waterfall, Roseberry Topping and Sutton Bank are just some of the beautiful natural attractions in the area. Hatties House is also the perfect base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Travel by steam train into the depths of ’Heartbeat’ country, or take a fishing trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour. The traditional seaside town of Scarborough is down the coast and offers many open air concerts, a waterpark and a Sealife Centre. The medieval walled city of York is well worth a day out with its National Railway Museum, cobbled shopping streets and a myriad of bars and restaurants all within the city walls. Thrill seekers can head to Flamingo Land or Lightwater Valley theme parks for a fun day out for all the family. Beach 800 yards. Shop 300 yards, pub 150 yards, restaurant 200 yards.

A prime location with the additional benefit of on street parking but this could be a problem during a normal week as office workers from the main road use it as a car park, double parking causing a no through road. Hatties House is very comfortable and has everything needed to enjoy a self catering holiday. Everything is of a high quality.

Hatties House is the top 2 floors of the building, there are steep steps up to the door then more stairs immediately as you enter. Once in, the house is lovely and very convenient for the shops and restaurants. We managed to park on the road but our car did get blocked in by people who worked in the offices opposite. In the folder it does say they have a car park 50 metres away but never did spot it! Everything was spotlessly clean and of good quality. Lots of coat hangers which makes a change, but there wasn't a hairdryer. Only one key supplied, would be good to have a second. Ignore the directions that the cottage company give you. As you come down Bagdale Road into Whitby turn right at the side of the Bagdale hotel, then left onto Victoria Place. The house is on the right. Would definitely stay here again.

Unfortunately we couldn't find Hatties House as we think the instructions may have been wrong. Parking isn't provided but just a 5 minute walk away you can park for free. The only other niggle is the awful view at the back of the house and noise until 3.30 am at the front of the house when people leaving nearby pubs. The house makes up for it inside though. It's very cozy and has everything you need.
