Set in a small hamlet, these carefully converted holiday cottages form a courtyard development where every care has been taken with the design, internal furnishings and their impact on the environment. Bell’s Barn (prop ref 25899) stands detached from the other cottages and is suitable for wheelchair users. Just a short walk from Crakehall, claimed to be one of the prettiest villages in the Dales, with a large village green overlooked by an imposing manor house where cricket and quoits teams often play. Nearby, the historic town of Bedale, 2½ miles, offers a weekly market every Tuesday and various events during the year, together with a range of individual shops, restaurants and pubs. Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. Historic York and its many attractions is within easy driving distance. Alternatively, just enjoy the wonderful Yorkshire countryside either by car, bicycle or on foot. Shop and pub ¾ mile. Properties 25898, 25899, 25900 and 25901 can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

This was our second time staying with Harvester Cottages. Mr McGregor’s Cottage (sleeps 4) the first time, Mr Weatherell’s Cottage (sleeps 6) this time. They are honestly the best cottages we have ever stayed at. On both occasions, we were delighted to note that the cottages were really well equipped and thoughtfully laid out (including a few Easter decorations which thrilled our younger guests!). All of the kitchen equipment was useable and clean. They had thought of everything! The beds (even the pillows - which is unusual) were incredibly comfortable such that none of our party had difficulties sleeping. The living room, with its wood burner and underfloor heating, was incredibly cosy and warm. And there was plenty of space to sit outside as well to enjoy the peace and tranquility unless, of course, your children are playing! The cottages are in the middle of nowhere (hence a slightly lower score for local amenities) but not far from Bedale which has plenty of shops and just on the edge of the most beautiful Yorkshire countryside. We were about a 40 minute drive to Hawes - but with the views that you pass, it is not a hardship! Steve, Sandy, and the team were incredibly helpful and lovely. They provided plenty of information on local services and communication throughout was clear. I would recommend these cottages in a heart beat. Looking forward to staying again.
