Sadly we were not impressed at all. Hare cottage for all its hype is old, tired and neglected. Your immediate impression is that its lovely, but as you settle in you begin to realise how filthy it is. We could draw in the dust, in the most obvious places, and the hidden away places... Just don't, OK., and animal hairs everywhere.... Literally. The cooker works OK, as does the rest of the kitchen. The windows are moldy and dirty. Seating in the living area is old and shabby, under the cushions.... A new world order is evolving amongst the detritus.... Yuk. The wood stove... Looks the part but is largely uncontrollable..... So you are cold or it becomes thermo-nuclear. The beds are old and rather uncomfortable, ours, the headboard is cat scratched to death and covered by a throw. The other bedrooms are OK beds very basic, one squeeks like a prison bed. The shower in the main house, which is ensuited to the pair of walk through single rooms is appalling, the shower is darn right dangerous because it does not hold a safe temperature, both myself and other guests were frozen then scalded by the shower. There is not a single extractor fan in the house or bathroom. The curtains in the living room are poorly fitting, and so long, my wife caught her feet in them, falling backwards onto the floor and narrowly missing hitting her head on the hearth. Hare cottage is sold on its anex... This massive open plan room with huge windows and mesanine floor containing an open bedroom. A very narrow spiral stair is the only way up. Below is a vast open living area with an attached bathroom. Being disabled, none of us made use of it. But the only heating was a radiator and halogen heater. There is central heating throughout, however during the three days we were there it did not come on, although early evening and morning, it would have been nice. Nope, it was cold. Outside is shabby on approach, with a very steep drive and access to the front door. To the rear, steps down and out into the garden, which is vast, but was too wet for us to explore. We will not be using Hare cottage again. It was well below the standard we expect, especially at the price.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hare Cottage. The owner was very welcoming and left us bread, biscuits, milk, butter and muesli along with a range of condiments. There were also logs for the woodburner and bowls and towels for the dog. He lives next door in what appears to be a converted garage and so was on hand for any problems (we didn't have any), without being intrusive. The bungalow is much bigger than it looks with a large double height extension, a sunny conservatory and a garden. Good for birdwatching from the conservatory. There is a large sitting area in the extension but the original sitting room is more cosy and has a TV and the woodburner. There is only seating for 3 in this area but we brought in a comfortable seat from the sofa in the extension. The location and local amenities have been marked down slightly because the cottage is a little remote from any village centre and on a main road. There are some nice walks in the immediate area. However, this seems a little unfair because we knew this would be the case before we booked. The bedrooms do get a little road noise but nothing that should put anyone off from booking. Perfectly quiet in the living areas. One big bonus is the Blue Bell pub a few yards away - excellent food and good hand-pulled beer. Best to book. All in all, a very pleasant stay, Thank you Martin.

We spent a lovely weekend at Hare Cottage. Everything we could possibly need was provided for us. The owner was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The dogs enjoyed and were safe in the enclosed garden and the cottage itself was lovely and spacious. The beds were very comfortable.

Spent a 3 night weekend with friends in Hare Cottage & we all agree we can't recommend it highly enough. The older part of the cottage has a traditional feel with a large log fire, hand crafted dining room table, all the kitchen facilities you could need & a comfy TV area. The mezzanine room is more modern but is still a relaxing place to spend time & is really quite stunning. I have only marked down on local amenities as apart from the local Inn there is not much within a short distance but then that is usually the point of these breaks. I have marked higher on location as it is a lovely part of the world. The Blue Bell Inn is very close to the cottage & we had a meal there & a few drinks on 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed. The food & beer were very good & reasonably priced. All in all you won't regret spending time here.

We had a lovely week at hare cottage. Martin welcomed us and left us some delicious treats to get us started on our holiday. The location was perfect for exploring Northumberland inland and coast as well as the Scottish borders and Edinburgh. The house was very spacious and comfortable and we had everything we needed. The Blue Bell pub next door was great - excellent food and own pizza oven. Thank you!

A very comfortable cottage. Central to all attractions in NE Northumberland. Although dog friendly, walks are limited to about 150 yard walk on a main road before reaching a pubic footpath which leads up hill to a small wood. The pub close by does allow dogs in to the public bar. It is quite noisy from the road in to the bedrooms but not in the lounge area.
