Yawl Apartment has it all - the brilliant on-site facilities and it’s situated close to Lyme Regis; perfect for a fun filled holiday!

"An ancient landscape of rolling downs, sheltered valleys
and Iron Age forts, immortalised in Hardy’s writings ..."

Enjoying a truly tranquil position in the village of Harcombe Bottom, close to the popular resort of Lyme Regis, Harcombe House offers a variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and requirements (refs DCCQ, DQK, DQL, DQM, DQN, DQP, DQQ, DTM and UKC2477). The house started life as a Victorian gentleman’s residence, and was later used as a boarding house for the local public school. Surrounded by 9-acre grounds, comprising gardens brimming with rhododendrons, well-tended lawns and shady woodland, each property is furnished to a good standard and enjoys shared use of an indoor swimming pool, hard tennis court and games room and well-equipped children’s playroom – making this an attractive choice for families. With sandy beaches, a host of seaside attractions, and beautiful countryside peppered with picture-postcard villages, all on the doorstep, Harcombe House truly is an ideal holiday location for exploring the delights of Dorset.
Just 2 miles away lies Lyme Regis, setting for the TV adaptation of John Fowles’ novelA French Lieutenant’s Woman’. Here, colourful fishing vessels and pleasure craft line the pretty harbour, and a host of outdoor activities, such as fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing tuition, and golf can be enjoyed. Superb coastal walks can be taken along the World Heritage Coast, with its stretches of fossil beaches to explore, and magnificent views to admire from Golden Cap – the highest point on England’s south coast at 626-ft high.
Nearby, Hardy Country beckons visitors to discover the rolling green pastures and pretty thatched villages made famous in his novels, while for a great family day out, the Georgian seaside town of Weymouth is within easy reach, offering in addition to its harbour and sandy beaches, a host of all-weather attractions, as well as several RSPB sanctuaries. Also well worth a day trip is the county town of Dorchester, 20 miles, alias Hardy’s Casterbridge; offering a bustling market square, and some excellent shops and restaurants. Dorchester is also a great base from which to explore the impressive Maiden Castle rising up from the plains. Exeter is within easy driving distance, its skyline dominated by the distinctive monument of St Peter’s Cathedral. Other important historical buildings in the city include the 14th-century Guildhall, several ancient churches and the restored Quayside with its Custom House dating back to 1681. Another town well worth a visit is Weymouth, with many attractions for all the family, including the Sea Life Adventure Park, which gives the opportunity to get close to sharks and rays
Nearby Sidmouth boasts nearly 500 buildings listed as having special historic or architectural interest, and in August the town hosts what many consider to be the country’s best folk festival at the beginning of August. Folk and roots artists from around the world as well as dance and theatre companies take over various venues in the eight-day event. The fishing village of Beer lies huddled within a small sheltered cove between gleaming white headlands. Much of the village remains unchanged since the time when it was a smugglers’ eyrie. With numerous stately homes and gardens to visit locally, including Abbotsbury Swannery and Tropical Gardens, ancient forts perched upon hilltops affording far-reaching views and a host of seaside towns, including Seaton (with its tramway) stretching along the coastline, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this part of the country. We had a brilliant time at Yawl cottage, everything was great except the mattresses on the beds need replacing. We stayed for 4 nights and all off us went home looking forward to our own comfortable beds.

Fantastic place. Fantastic facilities, however the mattress was horrible. I'd of rated this place a 10 if the mattress was ok, but instead it was thin, bouncy and not a very good nights sleep. Therefore forced to rate at 7 due to poor quality mattress.

Luverly house and location the games room is a great idea the kitchen and oyher rooms were well designed and equipped. The only downside was the poor lighting everywhere this was important particularly in the games room' I love to come in the summer my only concern would be parking especially in the town

Lovely house, lovely house amenities ie pool, tennis court, etc. The double beds' mattresses are a little on the thin & hard side for us but overall lovely peaceful grounds. The kids (10 - 21yrs) loved the pool & went every night & I wish we had one at home! Got them all together & having fun!

We had an excellent stay here... the only 2 downers to the holiday was the very poor water pressure in the shower and the comfort of the beds... the WiFi was also very poor. However the grounds were excellent and the swimming pool lovely!

We absolutely loved staying at Harcombe House. The owners have thought of just about everything anyone could want. The apartment was well stocked and spotlessly clean. There are disposable bbq available as well as large charcoal one for us to use. There is a great children’s and adults indoor and outdoor play facilities/equipment. Lots of outdoor dining/seating and spectacular grounds. Extra towels available for those who forgot to order them. A free loan dvd selection. I could go on all day, its a brilliant place.

A really great place to stay. Great location and although we were aware of other Ab nearby the noise was minimal. Great swimming pool and games rooms that we used daily. We felt that the lights could have been brighter in the kitchen and the shower more powerful but they were minor things. Overall a great place to stay that we will come back to soon!

We had a fantastic week at Yawl apartment. There were 4 adults and 3 children in our group and all of us were really surprised by how spacious the rooms were. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was good to have a separate living room. Bedrooms had loads of storage. We had perfect weather and being only 10 minutes from Lyme and 10 minutes from Charmouth meant we spent every day at the beach. The grounds around the house were extensive and the children loved running off to have an explore. The swimming pool was also great, and we hardly ever had to share it with the other residents. All in all a great holiday. Only issues - shower pressure was very weak and one child complained their bed was uncomfortable.

Could be an absolute gem. The grounds are lovely, the flat spacious, the pool an added bonus. Didn't get chance to use the tennis court but again an added extra and the games room ideal for the youngsters. Only gripe is that the shower is poor - used the ones at the pool instead, and the bath takes forever to fill. The bathrooms and kitchen could do with a bit of an update but all in all, a lovely place that we would stay in again.

Great to have a swimming pool and games room on site. Peaceful, scenic location within easy reach of Lyme. Hot waster pressure in the flat was low but shower in the pool complex was great so no problem. Loved it at Yawl.
