The properties are situated in an ideal location for visiting all that Devon has to offer, including Dartmoor National Park; the landscape is as dramatic as its weather, from its striking granite tors, to steep wooded river valleys and from swathes of heather-covered moorland, to tucked away villages and hamlets. Whether you want a quiet, gentle stroll, or an exhilarating mountain biking experience, there’s something for you at Haldon Forest Park, 3500 acres of woodland which is just 15 minutes from Harcombe House.
There are many cycle trails, including a great all-ability trail, with fun features for children with regular resting points that take in some stunning views over Exeter and Dartmoor. Or, if you like walking there are many different walks including The Butterfly Trail, which is a circular walk which, in places, gives you stunning views across the forest and over the Teign Valley.
Visit Go Ape, a forest adventure park with zip wires, Tarzan swings and a variety of crossings. Crealy Adventure Park, a great day out for the children, is also close by. Many sandy beaches can be found nearby, or take a trip further afield and visit the historic city of Exeter, with its canals, shops and cafes. Plymouth has the Sea Life Centre, Barbican waterfront and Plymouth Hoe, a large, south-facing open public space. East Devon has dramatic coastlines and is excellent for walking the coastal path, where you can visit Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Seaton. There are many National Trust properties all close by and worth visiting. The English Riviera is also on your doorstep, with sandy beaches, steam railway, zoo, theatres and boat trips. Beach 8½ miles. Shop 2 miles, restaurant 1 mile, pub on-site.
