Overlooking the village green, this traditional farmhouse is ideally situated to visit York, Ripon, The Yorkshire Dales and much more.

Situated in the heart of the quintessential English village of Aldborough, overlooking the village green, this detached, 19th-century cottage offers enchanting holiday accommodation. There are two living rooms, a study and a large kitchen with an open fire. Externally, there is a traditional, south-facing, enclosed walled garden to unwind in. The tranquil village is steeped in history, with parts of the Roman defences and two spectacular mosaic pavements on view at the English Heritage Museum which is around the corner from the cottage. The red and blue striped maypole, formerly a ship’s mast, is permanently situated on the green ready for the annual Mayday fête. The village also hosts a prestigious classical music event every June, the Northern Aldborough Festival. There is a friendly village pub and the neighbouring town of Boroughbridge has several inns, shops and restaurants. The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, with the Tour de France route just 8 miles from the cottage, and both the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks less than 30 minutes drive away. The cottage is an ideal base from which to explore Knaresborough, 7 miles, Harrogate, 10 miles, Ripon, 15 miles, and York, 20 miles. Local attractions include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall and Sutton Bank, and family fun can be found at Lightwater Valley and Brimham Rocks. Shop 11/2 miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

The cottage is ideally located, and very beautiful. There’s a lovely pub that does good food 5 minutes away. Having a dog and children it was a well enclosed garden to keep them safe

A fabulous cottage in a brilliant location. Aldborough is a very genteel village, with a pub, a maypole and much evidence of a Roman settlement. The cottage itself is right at the centre of the village: the four very evenly sized bedrooms sporting super comfy beds. There is only one bathroom, which could be an issue for some, although there is an outside convenience, which was absolutely fine in the summer! Two separate sitting rooms (snugs) provided good space to chill in the evenings and the kitchen / breakfast room was spacious and well-equipped. There is so much to do in the area - we didn't travel more than 45mins away...but within that radius were York, Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks, Beningbrough Hall, Ripon cathedral and nearby Boroughbridge....so we scrambled over fantastic rock formations, went walking back in time, looked at some amazingly diverse architecture and paintings, listened to some stunning organ music and bought some very tastyYorkshire curd cakes, treacle tarts and the biggest battenburg cake you've ever seen (the latter being a stroll away along the river from Hall farm). A comfortable and relaxing base for a holiday exploring this fascinating part of the world.
