This property is located on the edge of the South Downs National Park, close to the popular moated Herstmonceux Castle.

Enjoying peaceful, rural vistas overlooking fields, Half Moon has its own private entrance through a 5 bar gate, parking and a garden. It adjoins the owners’ home and is situated on the edge of the South Downs, where walks and cycle paths are on the doorstep. Just along the lane is one of the largest post windmills in the country - an ideal windmill location as it’s built on some of the highest ground in the area, overlooking the Pevensey Levels and English Channel. Herstmonceux Castle with grounds and gardens is nearby, and is home to the Observatory Science Centre, providing spectacular hands-on science among the domes and telescopes of a world-famous astronomical observatory. Explore 7 acres of grounds and gardens at Michelham Priory, with the longest water-filled moat in England, 9 miles. Also, visit Pevensey Bay and Castle, where William the Conqueror landed in 1066, Burwash with Batemans, home to Rudyard Kipling and Charleston Farmhouse, home of the Bloomsbury set and decorated by Vanessa Bell, sister to Virginia Woolf, which are all within a short drive. Eastbourne is approximately 10 miles away, with its award-winning beaches and train connections to London. Golf and horse riding locally. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

A lovely place to relax and unwind. Everything you would need has been supplied by the owners including a welcoming bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. The dog was also well catered for with treats, dog bowls and poo bags all provided. A short walk to the local pub where we received a warm welcome from the landlord and the lovely staff. Dogs are most welcome and the food is great. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place to anyone.

Stayed in Halfmoon for 4 nights and had a very relaxing time. Cottage was cosy and clean. It was well equipped. It overlooks fields and was lovely to see new lambs in the field whilst making breakfast. The nearest shop is a couple of miles away and there is a lovely pub just 5 minute walk away. It’s a great base to visit local attractions. We love to walk and did the walk on the South Downs from Burling Gap to Eastbourne and back, also visited Bexhill on Sea and Pevensey bay. We would definitely stay at Halfmoon cottage again and would recommend it to others.

Beautiful, well equipped property & ideal for the dog. Safe, short walk with verges to village pub. Cottage very cold on arrival but warmed up when we turned up thermostat, although no heating in the kitchen. Comfy sofa but a shame you can't see countryside views from lounge because of the hedge. A lovely holiday.

Had a lovely time at the cottage. Great for dogs with nice garden. Lovely countryside location. Host left us to enjoy the cottage. Lovely friendly pub just down the road called The white horse. Nice welcome pack left for us and for the dog.

Good location, very clean and beautifully furnished. Lovely woodwork details. Beds very comfy and gorgeous shower! Warm and well equipped kitchen. Wonderful welcome pack from kind host. The only drawback was the uncomfortable sofa and we couldn’t move it as it didn’t fit the room but if was a small thing. Plenty of space for us two and one big golden Retreiver. Lots to see around the area and beyond. Thank you for a great Christmas.

A lovely place to stay with dogs as the garden is enclosed and very safe for them. The cottage is very well equipped and was very clean. If was really nice having a shower and looking out of the bathroom window at the countryside. We enjoyed watching the Kestrels, Buzzards and the dragonflies and we also had a bat that visited the garden every evening. Lovely pub just a short walk away and a farm shop that was very handy, just a short drive away. The owners left dog treats and poo bags and a bottle of wine and milk which was much appreciated.

All things considered the cottage is really well equipped & you have practically everything you need. It was comfortable & spacious downstairs, a little cramped upstairs but worked ok for us. Anybody taller than 6 foot will bang their head a few times due to the layout upstairs but you do get used to it. Unfortunately the location lets it down. You have to drive everywhere to do anything as it's up quite a long lane which would be dangerous to walk along to get to the nearest shops in Herstmonceaux. That said the cottage is a good base to drive out & explore some of the local sites & there are some nice dog walks nearby but again, you'll need to drive to them. Pevensey Bay, Eastbourne & Birling Gap are about 10, 15 & 20 minutes away by car. Take the Beachy Head Road route from Eastbourne to Birling Gap as you get a really nice view of the Seven Sisters cliffs on the way down. We particularly enjoyed walking the Sussex Downs from the Birling Gap & Seven Sisters Country Parks. There are also lots of historical castles & National Trust places to visit around the area. Sheffield Park (NT) well worth a visit. The weather spoilt things as most days we were there it was raining or drizzly with just a couple of afternoons when the sun came out. All in all a nice change of scenery for a week, just wish the weather was better.
