These two cottages are located on a 1200-acre private estate in Rutland, which is the smallest, as well as one of the prettiest, counties in England. Set on a working sheep farm, both cottages are ideal holiday locations for couples, friends and small families, and enjoy enviable views across Rutland Water and the beautiful countryside. You will want to return here again and again.
Shepherd’s Cottage (ref UK12386) is a well-designed semi-detached cottage with an open plan kitchen/dining room. Patio doors lead to a private garden, where you can relax after a full day out. It has a separate living room with a cosy wood burner to sit in front of during chillier evenings. Both double bedrooms have their own en-suite facilities giving guests a high level of comfort.
Keeper’s Cottage (ref UK12387) is terraced and also well-designed, situated in a former stable block. It has an open plan living/dining room/kitchen with doors leading to a lovely garden where you can relax. The ground floor double bedroom enjoys its own en-suite facility. There is a larger bedroom on the first floor with an en-suite toilet and then a step up to the dressing room area, and then a further 2 steps through to a feature roll-top bath, where you can enjoy a long soak after exploring the area.
Both cottages are perfect for guests wanting to explore on foot or by bike or car and also enjoy the many activities in the area. There are plenty of walks and cycling routes from the estate, and the full Rutland Water lap of 23 miles is only ½ mile away. Spend time in the great outdoors - there are plenty of activities to take part in whilst staying in Rutland, including bird watching at the local nature reserves, fishing, rock climbing, high ropes, golf, crazy golf, boat trips, water sports including windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding during the summer; you can also enjoy the Aqua Park! Close by are the county’s two market towns: Oakham, 2 miles, where you can visit the 12th-century Oakham Castle, and Uppingham, 4 miles. Both towns are full of individual shops, restaurants, cafés and tea rooms. The pretty market town of Stamford, 12 miles, and Melton Mowbray, 13 miles (famous for its pork pies), are both well worth a visit. There are many historic properties in the nearby area including Burghley House, with its annual horse trials, Rockingham Castle and the National Trust properties of Priest’s House near Stamford, Woolsthorpe Manor and Lyveden. Slightly further afield are the towns and cities of Market Harborough, Leicester, Peterborough, Kettering and Huntingdon. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.
