Description

Thirsk is just 2 miles from this delightful detached cottage, Sutton Bank, Fountains Abbey and Aysgarth Falls easily reached.

Quietly positioned behind the owner’s home, these delightful holiday cottages are situated just 2 miles from the quaint market town of Thirsk, with its 15th-century church, original cinema and renowned racecourse. The cobbled market square hosts a twice weekly market and is surrounded by individual shops, traditional inns and tea rooms. Alf Wight, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ lived here and the ‘World of James Herriott’ visitor centre gives a fascinating insight into the working life of this famous vet, his subsequent books and TV series. Grove House Cottages provide a perfect base from which to explore the wider area too, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors to the east. Places of interest include Sutton Bank and Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey and Aysgarth Falls. Families enjoy hours of fun at Lightwater Valley, the Forbidden Corner and Flamingo Land. The coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey are all easily accessible and regular trains and buses run to the ancient walled city of York, 25 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub 100 yards and restaurants 1 mile.

One step to entrance. All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with tiled floors. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Just a brilliant stay. very well equipped and clean. Ann made us welcome and was very friendly. We had a bit of trouble getting a stable wi fi connection in the cottage but she was more than happy to allow us into her home to access it better. Short walk to pub was excellent. plent of room to park at the front of the property. easy to get arouns from Carlton Miniiott. Comfy beds. everything we needed. Ann supplied us with milk , cake and biscuits. super garden to sit/stroll in though we had our own table and chairs at the side of the cottage. Would love to come back.

Fantastic! Ann is a very special lady that makes you feel welcome from the minute you arrive until you leave. Central for all locations we wanted to visit.

Exceptionally clean, very comfortable cottage. Ann was very accommodating of our late arrival and had even provided fresh milk and a cake. The cottage is cosy and warm, and the beds were very comfortable.

The cottage is very well set out and is in a very quiet location, so great for a getaway, but not so great if you haven't got a car as there's not much in the village itself. We find it ideal for our get togethers (old college pals) as we can just sit and chat. Thirsk is a lovely, nearby market town and well worth a visit. It's the second time we've stayed and we would stay again. Mrs Horner is a lovely person who will always be flexible on the leaving time if no-one else is coming to the cottage and always leaves a very nice 'welcome pack' of the essentials. Our only slightly negative comment would be a lack of some serving dishes in the kitchen and the couches are a bit past their best - if 2 of you are sat on them, you tend to both slide into the middle!

We were disappointed with the cottage we felt it had not been cleaned properly, the tiled floor was sticky to walk on we found bits of food on the sofas. The microwave had to be cleaned out before we could use it,inside of cupboards were dirty. The blind behind the front door was broken, and even if it had not been the blind itself would have given no privacy. The beds were clean. But overall quite disappointing.

The owner made us feel really at home and the cottage even had a welcome pack. It was the ideal place for disabled parents to stay at with everything on one level and open plan.
