English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Warmington is a hidden treasure, with thatch cottages and Norman church, Althorpe Park and Silverstone are close by.

This renovated barn is perfectly located on the edge of the Cotswolds and close to major attractions such as Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, Silverstone, the Royal Agricultural Showground and the NEC. It is easily accessed from both the north and south, being just 10 minutes from junctions 11 & 12 of the M40. The conversion fronts a courtyard of historic farm buildings in a secluded, tranquil setting adjoining the village green and overlooking pasture and woodland. Warmington is a hidden treasure, with its stone and thatch cottages, duck pond, traditional pub and Norman church. It sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty under historic Edge Hill, and thus provides many local walks with a choice of villages to explore.

There are several National Trust properties within striking distance, and locally there are numerous recreational opportunities including riding, golf and fishing. Nearby Banbury offers comprehensive leisure and shopping facilities, twice-weekly markets, and of course a Fine Lady on a White Horse! Good farm shop within half a mile, a choice of seven restaurants within 3 miles, and if you want to stay in to keep in touch with family and friends via social media, there’s fibre broadband!

The holiday cottages (refs NQ6 and NQ7) can be booked separately or together to accommodate up to 13 guests, providing flexible accommodation for gatherings and reunions.

Beautiful village and accommodation generally good. Twin room unfortunately cramped with the combs. It was a bit dusty so had to vacuum on arrival. Space standards down stairs good and kitchen and lounge well equipped. It was beautiful weather for the week we were there and would have been ideal to have had a private area to sit outside. The outside space is situated at the front door which means sitting almost in the car park just a few metres away from several neighbours coming and going in their cars, some coming in just metres away at quite a speed. I hadn’t anticipated there was absolutely no private place to sit outside when I booked and felt this detracted from the enjoyment of a holiday property when the weather was perfect for bbq’s and being outside with family...we opted just to go out to eat instead. It might be worth mentioning that if you are taking a dog there is no garden and the property accesses unimpeded into a common car park and thoroughfare. Also the noise from the M40 is so unfortunate for the otherwise unspoilt Warmington.

The writing was on the wall when we arrived as to the owner and her attitude. Upon arrival rather than parking in the allotted bay we paused outside the front door to drop off our luggage (a task that would have taken 2-3 minutes tops) the owner who must have been waiting at her window ran out shouting for us to move immediately, I won't detail the exchange but rude, abrasive and uncouth doesn't do her justice. The cottage wasn't very clean, in particular the downstairs shower was filthy. The reason for this became clear after reading the many signs around the cottage with strict instuctions for holiday makers. Basically you are required to clean the place in full before you leave, I guess the previous holiday maker wasn't very thorough and also skipped the shower. Due to our numbers we had to use the sofa bed in the living room, it seemed to be in need of repair as it was impossible to put up properly but with nowhere else to sleep it had to be used. This was a decision we regreted as a member of our party had a nasty accident on the 6th day. I'm annoyed to see other reviews prior to our stay mentioning the broken bed, clearly owner was aware and didn't care to fix it. Departure was due at 10am, 9:40am the "friendly" owner was hovering outside in the vicinity of the cottage trying to look busy. Foolishly we again tried to avoid lugging cases to the parking and attepted to move the car to the front. She was on the scene in record time for round 2, why someone would choose to be so abhorrent to a paying guest is beyond me.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am concerned that the shower was not clean as this is not what we would want for visitors of our cottages. I had mentioned, to the elderly gentleman who had arrived earlier, that we had had some problems with the bed sofa but they assured me that it would be fine. The sofa bed has been replaced. Prior to arrival, guests are asked to not to park in front of the drive to the neighbour’s property. On this occasion, the guest parked on the neighbour’s drive, outside of the front door. I asked politely that they move the car to the designated parking area. My request was totally ignored and the guest continued to empty the car despite the allocated parking being a mere 20 feet from the cottage. At the end of their stay, to my surprise, they again repeated the exercise, totally ignoring my earlier request. As I was preparing the linen and cleaning materials for the changeover with my housekeeper, I went over immediately to ask them to move the car again and respect the neighbours. I was then met with a barrage of verbal abuse, which I have never experienced in the 12 years of running the cottages to a 5 star standard. We trust future guests will rely on our other feedback for a more balanced review of our property.
