Enjoy a peaceful holiday at this Grade II listed property. Plenty of attractions nearby, including Portsmouth and Birdworld.

This charming, Grade II listed holiday cottage, one of a pair, stands elegantly along the green and set back from the road leading to the village shop, tea rooms and pub. Close to the Hampshire/West Sussex border, Greenside Cottage makes a delightful retreat for families or couples, and has been lovingly restored yet still retains some original features, such as leaded windows and a wood-burning stove in an inglenook fireplace. The enclosed lawned garden is a particular feature, having been designed by an award-winning landscaper. There is a shaded seating area, which is the perfect spot to enjoy alfresco dining or an aperitif in warmer weather. There is also a bike store for those wishing to bring their own bicycles. The area is renowned for its walking and cycling routes being situated in the South Downs National Park. Compton is ideally placed for exploring the delights of the region, and is within easy driving distance of Petersfield and the beautiful, cathedral city of Chichester, which also has a golf course and boat tours around the harbour. Also within easy reach are Portsmouth, with its famous maritime history, retail shopping outlets and day trips to the Isle of Wight, Arundel, with its castle and WWT Wetlands Centre, Goodwood Racecourse, Petworth, Midhurst Cowdray Polo and beaches at Hayling Island or the Witterings. The sailing villages of Itchenor and Bosham are nearby, and the beautiful West Dean Gardens and Queen Elizabeth and Staunton Country Parks. Within easy reach in Hampshire are Jane Austen’s House at Chawton, Watercress Steam Railway, Birdworld and Winchester. Beach 10 miles. Shop, pub and tea room 500 yards.

Entrance hall. Living room with wood-burning stove in inglenook fireplace. Dining room. Well-equipped kitchen. First floor: Double bedroom. Bathroom with toilet. Further double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet, and access via stairs to second floor: Twin bedroom.

The cottage was well set up, clean and tidy with a nice secure garden. However, the windows and doors have not been draught proofed so it was bitterly cold when the wind blew. The central heating had been set at a very low level and it took a while to sort it out and warm the cottage to an acceptable level.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The Cottage has the most beautiful original iron fret work windows. It is Grade II listed and built around 1800. It is set in a little country village and semi detached, so exposed to the weather elements and we have had some colder days and nights. The windows cannot be replaced or double glazed, or sealed up - nor would you want to. They are not modern windows so there is some draught around them, but when the heating is on, and the wood burner is on with a crackling fire going, then the cottage gets as warm, toasty and cosy as you like. I say to all guests to change the heating controls around to suit them, everyone has different preferences, the initial setting when anyone arrives will depend on the previous guest’s settings. The cottage warms up very quickly.

Had a great week at this beautiful cottage. Newly decorated & new sofas - it was very comfortable. Enjoyed spending time in the lovely garden. Had everything we needed. Quiet and well located. Shop & two pubs within a mile. Lots of lovely walks from the door and short drive from others and nearby towns.

The owner Dinah was very helpful when I called a few days before we went We had a lovely time in the cottage and food it good to be able to walk to the shop and pub. The only thing that was negative / disappointing was that there were two settees in the lounge area which were a bit worse for wear, one was quite uncomfortable. Apart from that everything about the cottage was good, it was nice to have decent sized bath towels!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for the comments. You are so right, the sofas are way beyond their best, 2 new ones are on order, and the whole downstairs is having a redecoration while I wait for those.
