Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Description

This property is set on the edge of 6 acres of uncultivated meadow which is bounded by the River Annell.

Set in picturesque countryside, this 17th-century barn has been sympathetically converted using traditional materials but providing modern amenities, and wi-fi is available if required at the owner’s property, which is adjacent. The holiday cottages (refs OSX and OSY) are set on the edges of 6 acres of uncultivated meadow which is bounded by the River Annell, a haven for wildlife and humans, and with no street-lighting in the vicinity the area is perfect for star-gazing. There are free-range hens, sometimes pigs too, which all appreciate visitors whilst the local population of buzzards and kites constantly survey the whole area. There are enormous opportunities for outdoor pursuits and activities: walking, horse riding, mountain biking and cycling – Brechfa, 5 miles; fishing, both sea and freshwater; Dolaucothi Roman Gold Mines – 3 miles; Aberglasney, National Botanical Gardens of Wales, west coast beaches and Brecon Beacons for walking and scenery are also easily reached. Llandeilo, Lampeter and Llandovery are all 11 miles away with galleries, numerous small retailers, grocery shopping and take-aways. Local shop and excellent pubs within a 5-mile radius.

The Pipistrelle (OSX) and The Threshing Barn (OSY) can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.

What a wonderful place to stay. Very clean and comfortable and lovely friendly owners. The dolaucothi gold mines are only 6 mins away and are well worth a visit and are free if you have national trust membership. We would definitely go back to the Pipistrelle.

My friend and I stayed at Pipistrelle for a long weekend. Had a lovely friendly welcome from both owners and the location was amazing and the accommodation was superb. The walks were fabulous and not far away. Loved the whole experience.

The cottage was gorgeous, just what we needed to get away for the weekend with our pooch. We loved it.

Beautiful barn conversion, extremely well appointed and very comfortable. We had a lovely time at Glanrannell. Elena and Andy were friendly and welcoming but not at all intrusive and we had the space we desperately needed for our break. Loads of books, music and dvd's provided too. The 'amenities' score reflects that the barns really are in the middle of nowhere! - perfect for a peaceful week, but do take the basic food you need for the first night. We didn't, and were a bit hungry by the next morning... Overall, highly recommended for a quiet, comfortable, home-from-home break.

Lovely cottage with the smell of freshly laundered bed linen to welcome us. For us, the chairs were a bit on the low side and the mattress a bit squashy, which made sitting and sleeping a bit uncomfortable but it was by no means bad. The tranquility was beautiful, the grounds well kept and big enough to give the dogs a decent walk before venturing out for the day. The owners were attentive without being intrusive and were very welcoming. Overall it was a very cosy cottage, well equipped and thoughtfully set out. We would definitely go back and hope to do so again soon.
