Beautiful location with fantastic views but cottage was very cold even with central heating and calor gas heater on, double bed was very small and squeezed into small room, beautiful roll top bath but no hot water !!! Cottage information folder asked visitors to leave bathroom etc clean, but the whole cottage needed a good clean and remove the cobwebs !

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are saddened to hear that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay at Gill Edge Cottages. The temperature was very cold, below zero in fact, and there were very cold winds too. The Yorkshire Dales can have extreme weather in January and early February. The central heating was left on all day until midnight. I did go into the property to check everything was OK and show you how to light the fire and again to change the gas bottle. Had you told me it was cold, I could have checked the radiators which all have thermostat controls on them which may have needed turning up. I could have checked if any needed bleeding or got the plumber who only lives in the Village. There is a thermostat on the wall to control the whole Cottage. Unfortunately, you also failed to mention the hot water issue. I live next door to this Cottage and would have gladly gone back to sort out the hot water which is ran from an immersion heater. It turns on in the bathroom, the shower is electric. I'm sorry you found cobwebs, the Cottage had been empty for a few days and cobwebs can appear overnight in these stone cottages. The double bed is a standard; the property is advertised as having a double bed, not a king, which had a new mattress only a few weeks ago. The bedroom is small but has a chest of drawers, chair and wardrobe plus a TV. It’s very nicely decorated with Farrow & Ball paint and has good quality bedding. The Cottage has everything you could need including full size freezer and dishwasher, and plenty of good quality crockery, serving dishes and glasses. We were disappointed to only receive the score of 4/10 in this area.
