National Trust Holiday Cottage

Set in the grounds of Cragside Hall and Gardens, this absolutely charming, semi-detached cottage was built by Lord Armstrong alongside the formal gardens at Cragside for his agent. With a charming garden and sitting-out area with splendid views, Garden Cottage is now run by The National Trust. It enjoys superb views across the Italian terrace and parklands to the Coquet Valley over towards the Simonside Hills and beyond. The stunning location boasts a position in the most southern part of Cragside and the cottage attracts the sun facing south and east. Guests at the cottage have free access to Cragside Hall, the formal gardens and the hilly woodland. Cragside is a spectacle to behold when the rhododendrons are in flower, and visitors come to see the glorious blooms. Don’t miss the Rhododendron Maze! Walking through the cottage door, guests can feel the history and character linked to Cragside. With bedrooms on both levels and its quirky interior, the cottage is ideal for all age groups and will be sure to delight. The small and pretty market town of Rothbury is just over ½ a mile away with a fine selection of bespoke shops, cafes and eateries. Take a walk along the riverside or go walking further afield on the many footpaths or cycle routes. Easy access from here to the Northumberland National Park over to the east to visit Alnwick (11 miles), with the majestic castle and water gardens, cobbled streets and interesting shops. The Heritage Coast is within easy reach from here, if you can tear yourself away from the endearing and pretty location of Garden Cottage. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.6 miles.
