Very pleasant and characterful little cottage to stay in, with an attractive garden. The owner lived next door so was on hand if any problems arose, but she wasn't at all intrusive. We experienced a problem when we first tried to use the cooker as the microwave was in the place one would normally expect the cooker to be and vice-versa. Perhaps some easy to follow instructions on display in the kitchen would be a good idea as I doubt if every guest has used a mini/combi oven before. I personally found the use of air fresheners to regularly spray the rooms over-powering, but that was just about the only thing I didn't like!

Had a lovely week at Garden Cottage. Cannot rate it highly enough. Beautiful accommodation in a great location close to public transport. Lovely welcome package and greeting from the owner. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Lovely, comfortable cottage, well equipped and in a convenient location near a railway station with regular trains into Glasgow. Jenette was very welcoming and left us a substantial "welcome pack". She was always available to help if needed. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough and hope to return!

This was my second stay (in 6 months) at Garden Cottage - a very comfortable and cosy base from which I was able to visit family and friends in central Glasgow. The cottage is extremely well equipped and has everything you could possibly need for a week away. I stayed for the last week in April so it was particularly nice to sit in the sun room/dining room with the doors open and enjoy the lovely weather whilst my dog pottered about in the garden! The location of the cottage is really handy for Westerton railway station and there is a great service in to Glasgow and further afield. Jenette is a great hostess and the welcome pack was a lovely touch, comprising of both essential and treat items!

The cottage was historically interesting, beautifully clean, and Jenette was friendly and helpful. There were some downsides, though I feel mean mentioning them. The back garden was not very dog-proof, despite the addition of a couple of gates that our cockapoo bounded past immediately; the stairs were very steep; the bed was softer than we were used to; and the kitchen was a bit cramped. Equipment levels were inconsistent: there must have been about 50 plates but only two forks, and we ended up arranging our groceries on the worktop because the cupboards were so full of other stuff. The TV and DVD were not connected when we arrived, so we had to pull the units out and disconnect the Freesat to free up the scart cable. There were three radios but they were all non-working and ornamental. Overall we felt we were squatting in someone else's home rather than being given the space to make it our own.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review of Garden Cottage. We were pleased to hear that you found the property clean; we always aim to provide a high standard of cleanliness, quality and comfort for our guests. We do put two individual gates up within the garden to restrict pets to the patio area (to be on the safe side) as the postman often leaves the gates open and I would not like a pet to get out of the garden. There is plenty of cutlery – knives, forks, desert spoons, teaspoons and plenty of crockery ample for two people staying. There are two full sets of four place settings and a ten piece set in the sun lounge. The new king size mattress is of medium tension. We chose a medium mattress to accommodate the majority of guests’ preference, but we accept that comfort is a very personal experience. The stairs were made and built into the property approx. 100 years ago and have not been mentioned as an issue by any of our previous guests. The television is always connected and manuals are provided to explain how things work. There are 3 DAB radios in the Cottage, all in excellent working order - instructions on how to switch them on are in the Cottage. We strive really hard to provide a lovely Cottage for our guests to enjoy, and we hope the above didn't detract too much from the enjoyment of your stay.

Garden Cottage was ideally located for our requirements. We know the area well. Garden Cottage was very charming with everything you could want. Jeanette the landlady was very charming and supplied a very nice essentials pack. Would highly recommend this cottage. Beautiful garden covered in snow

    Not pet friendly

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review. My property is pet-friendly however as advertised we do only accept one pet, and the property sleeps up to 2 people. Unfortunately, these guests arrived with a cat and a dog and I believe a third person stayed a number of nights therefore over occupying my property and breaching the booking terms and conditions that were agreed to upon booking. Also, there are terms with regards to pets which are that pets are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs and they are not to be left unattended at any time in the property. These are set by for the comfort of all our guests as not all are pet owners and sometimes pets can become distressed when left in unfamiliar surroundings. Unfortunately, these guests did not adhere to these as they left their animals for very long periods in my cottage while they went out visiting (up to 15 hours), also one of my rugs has been damaged where one of the pets has urinated on and as I cannot buy another to replace I am having to pay to have it cleaned. So to have then received this low score is very upsetting but as can be evident from my previous reviews, my guests have been very happy with their stay with or without a pet.
