Description

This holiday cottage, with beams salvaged from shipwrecks on the Cumbrian coast, lies in an idyllic rural location.

Surrounded by stunning dramatic scenery, these delightful 17th-century holiday cottages (ref LVL and LZL) lie in a walker’s and nature lover’s paradise. Take the path to Stanley Force Waterfall, discover the ‘jewels’ of the River Esk and the ancient village of Boot, or walk to Devoke Water, the largest tarn in the Lake District. Majestic Wastwater, the coast and unspoilt beaches are a short drive away. The adjoining cottages, with beams salvaged from shipwrecks on the Cumbrian coast and wood-burning stoves, lie in an idyllic rural location, forming part of a small former farmstead accessed from the fell road by a gated unmade track. Shop and pub 3 miles.

We wanted a quiet break in a remote setting and that is exactly what we got. The cottage was in the most beautiful surroundings and with far reaching, stunning views. The cottage was small but adequate for the needs of myself, my partner and our dog. The owners had supplied just about everything one could need for a mini break, and then some! The cottage was very clean, quiet, cosy and comfortable. We do intend to book the place again in the future. Be warned though, the cottage is pretty remote and may not be suitable for people who have difficulty walking too far, plus the farm track from the main road to the cottage is rugged and may not be suitable for some of the low, sportier cars to negotiate. In conclusion, if you want to get away from it all for a quiet break in a cosy cottage surrounded by stunning scenery then it's hard to beat. Highly recommended!

We know the area well and looked forward to walking and exploring around the cottage. Unfortunately the weather put paid to our plans. It is a perfect location for good weather, but because of the dense fog we had to travel over the fell by car to see any daylight! The cottage itself was very well equipped and comfortable with an efficient log burner. I imagine the views from the cottage to be stunning in clear weather.

Really enjoyed the cottage as we are frequent visitors to the area. We were disappointed by the shared garden as we were unable to let our dog out in the garden

Lovely little cottage that is really perfect for getting away from it all. Beautiful views all around make it a truly wonderful setting. The cottage has all you need for a comfortable holiday whilst maintaining the charm of a traditional cottage. We had a wonderful holiday here and would love to come back again.

Nice cottage but using the wood burner in such a small space resulted in all of our clothing smelling of smoke! Luckily we visited during the summer. In winter with 2 blowers, two tiny wall mounted radiators and just one heater upstairs I suspect this cottage would be pretty cold.

Sorry we weren't very well when we went both full of cold not experienced walkers bit too far out even to the local shop lot of hill nothing really within walking distance.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry to hear that you were both full of cold when you stayed with us for the Bank Holiday weekend, and felt unable to enjoy the record breaking temperatures to the full. Our rural location with its panoramic views and numerous walks from the cottage door step, that suit all abilities, is something our guests usually love and return for. I do hope you have more success next time in choosing a cottage that meets your particular needs.
