Within this ancient village, this lovely holiday home boasts far reaching views over the countryside.

In a rural location on the edge of the ancient village of Castle Hedingham, these two detached, single-storey holiday homes, set in the owners’ 10 acres of grounds, have far-reaching views over open countryside. The accommodation is well-presented and has the added benefit of a heated indoor swimming pool - the pool is shared between the two cottages (refs W43379 and W43233) and both are allocated 3 hours of private use per day (one hour in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening - the rest of the time is shared use). There is also a large fully equipped barbecue area which can be hired. Castle Hedingham lies in the valley of the River Colne on the ancient road between Colchester (20 miles west) and Cambridge (30 miles east); it still retains many beautiful timber-framed, medieval and Tudor buildings including Hedingham Castle (a Norman castle, the ancestral seat of the Earls of Oxford). The area is ideal for walking or cycling. Nearby places of interest include the Colne Valley steam railway, Sudbury and Saffron Walden. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.

    Great large property, some of the decoration, furniture and facilities are very tired and need updating. Lots of lovely walks in the local area, and very quiet place. Just needs some modernising and looking after.

    Diablo was very comfortable and clean and surrounded by beautiful views. We especially enjoyed having the use of the pool. The disabled facilities in the shower room were also a real help to us and there was plenty of room for the wheelchair.

    The holiday home was perfect for us a party of 10 and 2 dogs. We had 3 elderly people and , one disabled adult. So the property being on one level with a wet room was great. The kids loved being able to go and use the pool , and the dogs loved the long walks around the area . We would definitely go back . The owner was very nice and was helpful explaining where to go in the surrounding areas.

    I think there should be another toilet in the cottage also there should be a fire exit along the long corridor where all the bedrooms are if there was a fire in the lounge during the night there is no means of escape. Our grandchildren loved the pool the youngest one learnt to swim that week but the exit slope from the pool was treacherous when wet and needs a drainage channel to help take pool overflow water away

    Enjoyed our stay after the first weekend was over as the other unit had a hen party and kept us awake until 3am each night. The unit was well equipped but really smelled of stale smoke. The doors would not shut properly and the showers had no pressure. The toilet handle also didn’t work. Most of the beds were uncomfortable to sleep in. On the plus side the kids really enjoyed the pool even though it needs a good paint job. The games room were quite tatty and we had to repair the table tennis bats before we could play. The owner went away for a few days and switched off the wi fit whilst he wasn’t there. The whole of the outside of the building needs cleaning and repairing with weeds growing everywhere. On our last day we decided to stay in and use the BBQ area. When we arrived one of the windows on the games room had blown open and the window and frame had broken. I reported this to the owner who said he would get it sorted. On our departure I was told we would have to pay for the window and he blamed the children for the damage. When we explained the kids were in the pool when that happened he still insisted it was our damage. He refused to give us our £200 deposit back saying he will refund what is left after repairs. This really spoiled the holiday.

    The outside of the building was unkempt and not at all like the advert. The building was shabby well used and needed a lot of attention . The toilet handle was broken, the hot water system in the bathrooms and the showers were very poor and not acceptable. Lots of the crockery was chipped ,the carpets in part were threadbear. Sports equipment was good, the pool was good and the owner was very pleasant. Outside areas were very good but there were weeds and long grass everywhere. The building was a perfect size for our family and needs but it was a disappointment because of the above.
