Description

Within this ancient village, this lovely holiday home boasts far reaching views over the countryside.

In a rural location on the edge of the ancient village of Castle Hedingham, these two detached, single-storey holiday homes, set in the owners’ 10 acres of grounds, have far-reaching views over open countryside. The accommodation is well-presented and has the added benefit of a heated indoor swimming pool - the pool is shared between the two cottages (refs W43379 and W43233) and both are allocated 3 hours of private use per day (one hour in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening - the rest of the time is shared use). There is also a large fully equipped barbecue area which can be hired. Castle Hedingham lies in the valley of the River Colne on the ancient road between Colchester (20 miles west) and Cambridge (30 miles east); it still retains many beautiful timber-framed, medieval and Tudor buildings including Hedingham Castle (a Norman castle, the ancestral seat of the Earls of Oxford). The area is ideal for walking or cycling. Nearby places of interest include the Colne Valley steam railway, Sudbury and Saffron Walden. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.

Single step to entrance: All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 5 bedrooms: 3 double, 2 twin. Shower room with toilet. Wet room with toilet.

Freeview TV.

Both properties: Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen and towels included. Cot and high chair on request. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi (in games rooms). Shared landscaped 10-acre grounds with sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue (at cost, by arrangement with owner). Ample parking. Cycle store. Shared indoor heated swimming pool (8m x 3.5m, depth 1.2m) with changing room, open 9am to 10pm all year (3 hours’ private use per day). Shared games room with ¾-size pool table and table tennis. Second shared games room with pool table and air hockey. Third shared games. Welcome pack. No smoking. NB: 5 steps in grounds.

The outside of the building was unkempt and not at all like the advert. The building was shabby well used and needed a lot of attention . The toilet handle was broken, the hot water system in the bathrooms and the showers were very poor and not acceptable. Lots of the crockery was chipped ,the carpets in part were threadbear. Sports equipment was good, the pool was good and the owner was very pleasant. Outside areas were very good but there were weeds and long grass everywhere. The building was a perfect size for our family and needs but it was a disappointment because of the above.

liked the location, spacious property for the group size, facilities a plus factor. Owner pleasant and helpful. downside beds and pillows need renewing as well worn and not very comfortable. could do with a freshen up in décor and furnishings.

We stayed with family friends, for a mid-week break over half term. There were four adults and four children (aged 16,15,12 and 11) and two dogs. The cottage had everything we could possibly need for a relaxing short break and we had a great time. We used all the facilities on site, at least once a day, including the swimming pool, which was a big hit with everyone...not just the kids. There are beautiful walks from the door for dog owners and walkers, with a huge field on site where the dogs can run free. The only slight grumble.....the water pressure in the showers was dire, but this didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the holiday overall.

The only downfall from staying at diablo is that we were rushed out at 10am. Understandably the check out time also we only had a couple of bags left to load into the car. And needed to wake our still sleeping 2.5 year old. Who was dragged from bed to car without even being able to get dressed or have a nappy change. Other than that the accommodation was satisfactory. All be it not the cleanest and in need of serious modernisation. The furniture is worn and not all mattresses fit the beds correctly.

We are 8 senior citizens and chose diablo because it is all on one floor. It is OK but we found most of the bedrooms very cramped and poorly furnished. For example, in our twin bedded room we had a wardrobe and one bedside table, one lamp and a chair we couldn't sit on because it was trapped in a corner between the bed and wardrobe. There were several small maintenance issues as well like missing light bulbs, toilet flush not working, kitchen cupboard doors not fitting well....we couldn't even find 8 matching glasses. The wet room was very welcome. It was a strange mixture; a huge wetroom but 2 steps into the building and not enough room to manoeuvre a walker or wheelchair round some bedroom doors. The living area was very comfortable and the wifi works. The owner lives on site and was very friendly. We had an enjoyable holiday but we probably wouldn't go back.

Ideal for a family get together. We celebrated our Golden Wedding and a birthday here. The pool and games room was an added bonus and kept the kids entertained. Nice welcome pack which included a bottle of wine. Loo rolls, washing up liquid, hand wash, tea towels etc. all provided.

This is a very lovely place to holiday as a family, group of friends or siblings. Age is not an issue. It's a holiday and a half.

The location for us was quite good, as we ended up visiting Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The owner was very nice and friendly. The pool was ideal. This was the best bit of the whole place.
