You’ll receive the friendliest of welcomes on the community-owned Hebridean Island of Gigha, where Ferrycroft 2 sits on the edge of the silver sands and turquoise waters of Ardminish Bay. A thoughtfully renovated barn on a fisherman’s croft, conveniently close to the quiet ferry terminal, Ferrycroft 2 is somewhere you’ll want to return year after year! From the outside, Ferrycroft 2 looks like a typical farm building with thick stone walls and a west Highland slate roof. Inside, it has been transformed to offer the comforts of modern living whilst retaining many original features such as the wooden beamed ceiling, deep window sills and a cosy cottage feel. The open plan living area is warmed by a welcoming wood burner, and a charming wooden staircase leads up to a cosy galleried bedroom area. Outside you can sit and enjoy the views over Ardminish Bay and listen to the haunting sounds of the seabirds swooping and diving in the pristine turquoise waters.
The Isle of Gigha is the most southerly and one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean Islands. The island has stunning beaches, beautiful gardens to explore, and is a place that you will remember forever! Gigha is the most breathtaking island with silver beaches, beautiful bays, clear green seas, stunning views, amazing sunsets, lochs and gently sloping hillsides, as well as a plentiful wildlife and birdlife. Being relatively flat, it is ideal for walking and cycling, and the Gigha Path network offers plenty of opportunities to choose from.
Ferrycroft is close to a lovely beachside restaurant and bar, and not far from Ardminish, the main hub of the island, with its hotel, post office and grocery store, craft shop and art gallery. There is an activity centre close-by where you can hire boats, kayaks and wetsuits. Bike hire is also available, as well as sea fishing opportunities on your doorstep, and golfers can enjoy a 9-hole golf course with the most fantastic Atlantic views.
There are many archaeological and historic sites to explore, as well as the ever-changing Achamore Gardens, which benefit from Gigha being low lying and having a climate which is drier and warmer than other places on the west coast of Scotland. Seven miles long by a mile and a half wide, Gigha is situated 3 miles west of the Kintyre peninsula, less than three hours’ drive from Glasgow and just a short 20-minute ferry journey away from the mainland. The mainland ferry terminal is at Tayinloan, just 25 minutes’ drive from Tarbert, and should you be tempted to leave the island during your holiday, it is convenient for exploring the beautiful Kintyre peninsula where there are many beautiful beaches and coastal walks with stunning views over the Atlantic.
The fishing and yachting town of Tarbert has plentiful shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions. A 30-minute drive towards Campbeltown gives you access to three of Scotland’s best golf courses, and has a cinema, leisure centre and several renowned whisky distilleries.
Ferrycroft 2 can be booked together with adjacent Ferrycroft 1 (UK33395) to accommodate up to 4 guests.
