Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. Marsett itself has true rustic country charm as cattle and sheep can roam freely on the village green. Horse riding and fishing nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 3½ miles.

Perfect cottage for us and our 2 Collies. Maybe remote for some but we enjoyed the peace and tranquillity and the many walks from the doorstep. Sparkling clean, very comfortable and well equipped (although a kitchen sponge/cloth would have been appreciated). Although enclosed garden the fence and gate could do with being a bit higher to be truly enclosed.

Located by a camp site, right next to the amenities block, with tents in your view line to the dale. The kitchen equipment provided is minimal e.g no potato peeler, grater, etc. No basic cooking stuff provided e.g. no milk, salt & pepper, cooking oil, sugar. The cottage is quite warm so you may not need the one bag of logs per day that the owners will want to sell you.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Oh dear - we spoke to this lady on a daily basis as she had never been to the Yorkshire Dales before, and suggested places to explore and pubs and cafes to eat. She never mentioned any problems as she wandered around our neighbours gardens taking photographs of the wonderful views; her friend sitting herself by our barn drawing the landscape too. Self catering means bring your own food although if asked we would be happy to provide salt, pepper, sugar etc.

A most beautiful location for total relaxation. The owners are so helpful and welcoming. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable. Excellent log burner which is very cosy in the evenings! Many local attractions to visit within a few miles of Marsett and the market town of Hawes is close by for shops , bank , hotels etc.
