Description

A lovely period Victorian family home packed with character and history, situated in the centre of Bodmin town.

A very warm welcome awaits you and your friends and family at Emma Place, a spacious, Victorian, semi-detached, villa-style property. Charming in its interior furnishings, with original flagstone slate flooring, beautiful Victorian tiled slate fireplaces and large windows giving lots of natural light and comfortable furnishings, make it a real home from home. The bedrooms are spacious and very nicely presented, the dining room vibrant and relaxing perfect for a lovely family meal, and the living room has a roaring open fire, perfect for chillier evenings or those cosy autumn and winter breaks. All in all, Emma Place is a wonderful house in a superb location, and a great choice for your perfect holiday in Cornwall.

Located in the heart of the charming little town of Bodmin, in a quiet spot just a 2-minute walk into the town centre with its array of unusual shops. Just across the road is a lovely play park with a pond for children, and next door is St. Petroc’s Church, the largest and one of the oldest parish churches in the whole of Cornwall. Bodmin is home to the famous Bodmin Jail and Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway. From the garden you can hear the train’s whistles and enjoy views towards Bodmin Beacon, a lovely 87-acre nature reserve, and the 144ft tall monument towering high above the town.
This property would suit families with children of all age ranges for lovely summer holidays or even two couples looking for autumn, spring or winter breaks for a spot of calm and tranquillity. It is very dog friendly, with an enclosed front garden and rear courtyard. For the outdoorsy types, bring your bikes or hire them, and you can ride all the way from Wenfordbridge to Padstow along the 18-mile Camel Trail. Fishing can also be found nearby. The house is named after Emma Gifford, the wife of the famous Victorian novelist and poet Thomas Hardy who used to live here. Thomas Hardy is best known for Tess of the d’Urbervilles and over 1000 poems penned in his lifetime.
Bodmin is probably best known for the wild and rugged moorland and the infamous smugglers haunt of Jamaica Inn, but this area has so much more to offer holidaymakers. Set almost centrally in Cornwall with easy access to the A30 or A39, making exploring the wider region very accessible. The north coast towns of Newquay, Wadebride, Padstow, Polzeath and Port Isaac are no more than half an hour drive, whilst the picturesque south coast towns such as Fowey, Charlestown and Mevagissey are a similar distance away. The National Trust house of Lanhydrock is just a 5-minute drive, 2 miles, with magnificent gardens, and the wonderful Eden Project is only 20 minutes, 8 miles, further down the A30.

Upon booking Emma Place, you will be emailed comprehensive guide to the house and surrounding area, with recommendations from previous holidaymakers. Upon arrival there will be a welcome pack waiting for you, including a cream tea and a bottle of wine, to ensure that you start your stay in the best possible way. A dog basket, treats, bowls and towels are also provided, because they are on holiday too! A cupboard full of books, games and DVDs is also provided. Beach 10 miles. Shop 100 yards, pub 30 yards and restaurant 60 yards.
