Loved the cottage apart from the parking. There was an issue with the parking as it was very tight and the people staying in the cottage next door we’re not happy as they were unable to park their VW Polo outside their cottage. We parked as close to ours as we could but struggled every morning to get out. Also there was no padlock on the shed or nothing inside the shed to lock and secure our bikes to. Otherwise we would stay again as the location for walks and cycling was perfect.

A lovely cosy cottage. Traditionally furnished and close to beautiful river. Parking and gateway were a bit tight for our large car.

Edna's cottage with its attractive front garden is in a beautiful, scenic location overlooking the river. The cottage itself was characterful and had parking (always at a premium in this area). Our criticism was that we were only provided with 1 x toilet roll, 1 x J-cloth, a scourer and washing up liquid - for 4 people for a week! Also, we felt it could have been cleaner e.g. if you needed to wipe the floor the cloth (provided by us) was quite dirty afterwards. There was also quite a few cobwebs around the place. We were very fortunate, the weather was amazing but had we had a wet week (often happens in the Lakes) I don't know how we would have got clothes dry as there is no drier in the cottage. Overall we had an excellent week in Edna's Cottage and were blessed with a heatwave which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful garden and Cumbrian scenery.

Fabulous location, literally park up for the week and walk. Old fashioned cottage but charming. Plenty of hot water. Clean bed sheets. Perfect stay. Could do with a bigger fridge.

Response on behalf of the owner; So glad you enjoyed your stay, I agree a tall fridge would be useful but we felt a 60cm under worktop fridge would be best suited to the kitchen and maximise the work area.

Our 4th time at this cottage - June 2014, Christmas 2015, March 2017, March 2018. Issues which were there four years ago are STILL there even though I put them in my revue last year! 1. Broken window pain in back bedroom 2. Broken window pain in bathroom 3. Dirty, old settees 4. Dirty, old throws 5. Broken toilet handle This time also the cottage was not cleaned adequately. I suspect this is because the cleaners are not paid enough/not given enough time to do it adequately. We have paid over £2000 (in total) for our stays at this cottage. New settees could have been purchased with the money we have paid but they haven't. They itch and poke through your clothes. The throws over the top of the settees must never get washed because one visitor leaves on a Friday and the next one arrives on a Friday. There just isn't time to wash and dry them in that time. There was a broken glass in the cupboard. It is advertised as having a washer/dryer but it is not a dryer - which is essential when you are out on the muddy fells all day. And if you are going in July you will pay in the region of £800+ but you will still only get one toilet roll for a family of four. It's just not good enough!!! HOWEVER - we absolutely LOVE the cottage. It retains its traditional charm with an old range, flagged floors downstairs and wooden floors upstairs. We really do want to come again - we love it - but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE spend some of the money that we have paid on cleaning, repairing and replacing. Thank you.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; So sorry to hear you were not happy during your stay at Ednas Cottage this year. I have looked at your review for last year and you only mention the sofas on that occasion. We did keep them longer than some visitors have been happy with as we have been rather attached to them and found them comfortable, but they have now been replaced. We have taken a little while to find some that are both up to date but also reflect the traditional style of the cottage. Cleaning is done for us by a local management agency who have been looking after the cottage since we bought it in 2001 and we have found them to be thorough and thoughtful in their care of the property. I have no explaination for the cleaning not being up to standard for your visit so please accept my apologies for it not being as expected. We are always happy to be told if anything needs replacing through breakage so that problems can be remedied as soon as possible as we like our cottage to be well presented. So glad you love the cottage and have visited four times but it is disappointing for us that you have not noticed the repairs and relacements that we have made during that time. I hope though that as you obviously love the Lakes, you make many more enjoyable visits to the area.
