Description

The Lodge is peacefully tucked away with stunning views up the River Eden, which is on the eastern side of Cumbria, on the fringe of the Lake District

The Lodge is peacefully tucked away with stunning views up the River Eden, which is on the eastern side of Cumbria, on the fringe of the Lake District, and is set at the side of a private lane which runs up to the main house (though some distance away). Refurbished and decorated to a high standard, it provides charming all-year-round accommodation for couples looking for tranquillity or even romance. It is also equipped with super-fast broadband with a wireless download speed of approximately 30Mb/s.

Eden is a haven for peace, tranquillity and a vast variety of wildlife, perfect for ornithologists and country lovers. It is an outstanding area for walking, whether for a hike on the high open fells or a gentle riverside stroll. Cyclists will love the quiet country lanes and the C2C cycle route. Outdoor activities don’t stop here - why not try canoeing on Ullswater (10 miles), a spot of fishing on the doorstep for trout, salmon and grayling (by prior arrangement with the owners), pony trekking or golf in Penrith (6 miles). There are attractions for the whole family including a cruise on Ullswater or a ride on a restored railway high in the North Pennines! Surrounded by dramatic landscapes including Ullswater and the north eastern fells, it is also close to both the borders of Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales. This secluded and unspoilt destination will inspire, rejuvenate and refresh visitors at any time of the year. A lively calendar of events adds to a holiday here with festivals of all kinds, country and craft fairs, farmers’ markets, and traditional agricultural shows to name just a few. Shop 3 miles, pub 1 mile. Eden Lacy is made up of three properties and enjoys one of the most picturesque locations in the Eden Valley, which is on the eastern side of Cumbria, on the fringe of the Lake District. All three cottages nestle in idyllic, scenic, rural settings overlooking the beautiful River Eden. They all also have super-fast broadband with a wireless download speed of approximately 30Mb/s. They are all very individual and are renovated, furnished and presented to a high standard.

Crakeld Holm (LM4) was originally a sandstone bank barn dating from the 18th century but is now transformed into a fabulous detached four-bedroom house. Much of the original character has been retained, in particular the main entrance with its lovely sandstone archway which leads into the original upper hayloft. This is now a dramatic open-plan living area and kitchen with traditional slit windows, hefty timber beams and high ceiling. The room itself is a showstopper, only bettered by the wonderful southerly view from the French windows and balcony out over the river and viaduct beyond.

The Lodge (LM3) is peacefully tucked away with stunning views up the river valley. It is set at the side of a private lane which runs up to the owner’s house (though some distance away). Refurbished and decorated to a high standard, it provides charming all year round accommodation for couples looking for tranquillity or even romance.

Force Mill (LNG) is a delightful, detached, Grade II listed, stone farmhouse which has been completely transformed into an immaculate holiday home. Retaining its original cottage character, its charm is enhanced by beautiful furnishings and modern fittings. Positioned right on the beautiful riverbank by a weir, this is a truly idyllic location.

The location of The Lodge is perfect if you want to get away from it all. It is comfortable and clean however, the accommodation would now benefit from a little TLC and replacement of some of the equipment especially the cooker.

This holiday cottage is in a beautiful location and was light and airy with excellent views. It does however need some serious updating in our view. The double glazed windows in the bedroom and one set of double glazed windows in the sitting room had blown seals and were totally fogged up. On the second and third night of our stay, we were kept awake at night as there was an animal in the loft scurrying about and knawing. We suspected it could have been a squirrel or a rat! The ridge tiles on the roof had gaping holes in so it would be very easy for an animal to get in. We left a handwritten note for the Housekeeper advising of the animal in the roof space. One key issue that action MUST be taken on is the cooker in the kitchen. All the symbols on the cooker showing which ring on the hob was which, were rubbed off completely and someone had written a note on the manual showing which knob worked which ring. This is a serious health and safety issue and should be addressed immediately. Someone could very easily get burnt. The above didn't spoil our stay and with some work, this could be a lovely cottage. Parking was excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms were of a good size for a couple and there was a good sitting out area. Privacy was excellent and views outstanding.

A very nice cottage, but there were hundreds of flies appearing inside. Also wet or dry rot underneath the window of the bedroom, which emitted a damp smell.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Sadly we have no control over the number of flies, but they have been exceptional this autumn. We have taken action to eradicate this in all our cottages and they will naturally cease as the colder weather begins Nov 2nd - right now. A new window in the bedroom is planned as soon as possible. We value feedback and thank you for your comments.

The Lodge is charming, cosy and comfortable. It is well equipped and has a good heating system as it can get chilly in the Lakes !It has stunning views over the valley and is quiet and off the beaten track. It can make for a peaceful and relaxing holiday The village is about two miles away and unfortunately there is no pavement or footpath to walk.Other than that, it is perfect: the sort of place we always looked forward to returning to after a long day out.

Peaceful, cosy cottage with stunning views all round. Good walking area, perfect for a couple. Nearest supermarket is in Penrith. Close enough to Lakes for trips out too.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. There are several large supermarkets in Penrith, many which will deliver - Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Booths and M&S, but there is also a local Co-Op in Lazonby 2 miles away which has all the essentials.
