Description

A lovely detached holiday property, set in a beautiful coastal town, with spectacular panoramic sea views from the living room.

Driftwood is a contemporary, three-storey, detached holiday property built into the side of the hill overlooking Brixham and Torbay. The open plan living room has picture windows, and patio doors open onto a balcony which basks in the setting sun. There are steps leading to another terrace below for al-fresco dining and watching the sun set over Torbay. The ground floor master bedroom has great views, as does one of the bedrooms on the first floor, where there is also a bathroom. The property benefits from a garage for a medium sized car, with additional on street parking nearby. Panoramic views can be enjoyed from Brixham town and harbour across Torbay and beyond to Lyme Bay on a clear day.
Driftwood is a lovely house in a great position, ideal for a holiday whatever the time of year. There is easy access to the coastal footpath, but you may decide just to sit back and enjoy the scenery. Brixham is a bustling, interesting town and with this bird’s eye view you can watch the activities of the boats on the water below. Fresh fish is landed on the quay, or if you don’t feel like cooking, there are many restaurants to choose from in Brixham. Shoalstone outdoor salt water pool, an art deco icon, is a mere 300 yards. Brixham is a popular destination with walkers, daytrippers, fishermen, rock climbers, naturalists and historians, making it one of Torbay’s top ten most visited attractions. Take a ferry to Torquay with its bustling shops, bistros, cafés and the coastal zoo, or a boat trip to maritime Dartmouth, where you can ride on the Dartmouth steam railway or leisurely cruise along the River Dart. Visit Agatha Christie’s Greenway House and Dartmoor with its tours and quaint villages. Fine golf courses are a short drive. Beach 300 yards. Shop 300 yards, pub 200 yards and restaurant 1/4 mile.

Ground floor: 1 double (5ft) bedroom with en-suite bathroom with corner bath, shower cubicle and toilet. Lower ground floor: Living room with patio doors. Dining room/kitchen. Separate toilet. First floor: 2 twin bedrooms. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Electric coal-effect fire in living room included. Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels included. Travel cot and high chair (on request). Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Two terraces, patio and furniture. Parking (1 car). No smoking. NB: Steps to courtyard.

House was lovely but parking was a nightmare. Could not get car in garage or park outside of house. Road very narrow and steep. Parked on another road and in morning found someone had keyed my car. Two big scratches along three panals of side. Will cost a lot of money to repair. Reported incident to police. Spoiled rest of holiday. Would have been happier if garage was accessible. Also very difficult to drive to house as roads were very narrow, steep and full of parked cars. Shame as house was exceptional. Excellent views of harbour.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry that your car was damaged during your stay at Driftwood. This is the first time I have heard of any malicious damage to vehicles parked in the surrounding roads. Brixham is an ancient fishing town built on a hillside with many small winding roads, although the roads leading to Driftwood are quite sufficient in size. The description of the property and area states this clearly. There is nothing purpose built about Brixham. It also states about the accessibility of the garage. As I have noted before with a little manoeuvring, my Vauxhall Zafira fitted into the space. There are parking spaces on the opposite side of the lane from Driftwood available on a first come first served basis and more unrestricted parking around the corner. The pay-off for the positioning of the property is the most spectacular views that blow most people’s minds away. We have never received a negative comment about its special position on the hillside as you acknowledge.

Had an absolutely fabulous stay at Driftwood. It is a lovely property, perfectly positioned for exploring Brixham, Berryman Head and beyond. It's greatest feature is the view though and the fantastic patio and balcony. You could spend all day just soaking it up. My one request would be to cut back some of the foliage a little to make the splendid vista even better (but this should not put off potential renters!).

Great cottage with wonderful views. Comfortable, and our car (vwpolo) fitted perfectly in the garage.

Had a lovely stay in Driftwood, loved just sitting watching all the activity in the harbour. Got plenty of exercise coming up the steps from town! Couldn't work out were the parking was supposed to be from the instructions but parked a couple of streets up and hardly moved the car, walked and got the ferry. We enjoyed spotting the house wherever we were in town. Brilliant holiday!

The property has amazing views over Torbay and is a modern well equipped cottage. There are some excellent books, interesting furniture and quality original artwork on the walls. Cooking utensils seem to be whats left of larger sets but for the most part we managed. A small pan would have been good. Some of the items were not that clean and needed washing before use. Around the place in nooks and crannys cleaning hadnt been done. The settee in the lounge had sagged and very difficult to get out of. Seagulls were a nuisance and I suspect previous guests had been feeding them. Plants and trees from the lower property have started to obscure the view from the garden. Provision of a pair of binoculars would have been a nice touch. Parking is a nightmare with locals putting notes under the windscreen, coming out and demanding you move your vehicle and ranting at you in the street which is very narrow. One lady said she was a doctor and I really felt like advising her to prescribe herself some tranquilisers. The garage is impossible to use unless you have a smartcar or fiat 500 etc. Local people in the town, involved in the tourist trade, were all very friendly. I strongly recommend the steep climb to the Queens Arms pub on station road for great beer, food and entertainment. The old Crown in the harbour is also worth a look. We had a good holiday in a good location with plenty to do rain or shine but the locals were a pain.
