The cottage has huge potential but needs a lot of refurbishment to get it up to standard. Beds were clean but uncomfortable. There were only 6 usable dining chairs as 3 were dangerously broken. The lead to the dvd player was missing . There was mould and peeling paint in the bathrooms. The upstairs windows were dirty and ill fitting. The carpet was soiled. The cottage backs onto the farmyard of a beef farm with an open cattle shed directly behind the property so inevitably there were flies. There were holes in the plaster and unrepaired cracks. The location is great for Duxford, Wimpole Hall and Cambridge . There was plenty of kitchen equipment and constant hot water.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were disappointed to read your review following your recent stay at Kestrel Cottage. Following your feedback, we checked the dining chairs and couldn’t find the damage you mention. The family who followed had no complaints about the chairs. We accept the problem with mould and peeling paint in the bathroom – thank you for bringing this to our attention. The property is due for refurbishment when convenient. It was unfortunate that the upstairs dormer window was dirty but inevitable with hundreds of House Martins on the wing. The window fits perfectly, it is a tilt and turn and needs to be perfectly aligned to close properly. In regards to the flies, the cottages are located on a working farm and like you say, it is inevitable that there will be the odd fly or two, especially during periods of warm weather. Previous guests have not mentioned this as an issue before and if we were aware of your concerns, we would have provided fly spray for you. It would have been nice if you had come to us to bring your grievances to our attention as they would have been solved quickly and easily, letting you enjoy your holiday to the full.
