Wonderful cottage, beautifully presented. Spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable, every effort had been made to make our stay five star. Big thank you to the owner Sheila who told us a lot about her beautiful farm and let our kids to feed her calves.

I stayed at the Byre in October 2018 with my 11 year old daughter. The cottage was gorgeous, with a beautiful view of Aisla Isle and Arran on a clear day. Sheila was extremely welcoming and helpful! Ballantrae has everything we needed - a pub where we had a lovely meal, a well stocked store, garden centre and of course, the stunning coast!

Had been a little concerned to read previous reviews saying cottage looked ‘tired’ and that surroundings were ‘barren’. How pleasant therefore to arrive and find that neither were representative of what we found. Cottage far from tired, but clean, spacious homely and cosy, with beautiful interior decor. As for barren – yes, there were weeds in the field beyond the outside seating area – but it was just that – a field on a working farm. The views of Ailsa Craig and scenery on approaching and leaving the cottage are stunning. Would highly recommend a stay at The Byre where you are guaranteed a warm welcome by the family.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us in The Byre. It was lovely to meet you both and be able to impart some local knowledge, which will have hopefully gone some way to enhance your stay. I am delighted that you were so impressed with the Cottage and its surroundings. We try very hard to provide a home from home and it is lovely when people appreciate and compliment this. I really hope that you can perhaps come back to see us sometime in the future.

Wow what a fantastic family holiday we had at this beautiful farm, the accommodation was lovely and modern and the location spectacular, our children loved feeding the calves on the farm and was made to feel very welcome, we went on quite a few day trips and spent time on different beautiful beaches, but we would have still found lots to see and do nearby if we had stayed local, our only disappointment was that we didn’t book for longer. we would definitely recommend to other families.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent stay with us. It was lovely to meet you and your family and share a little of what we are about, with you all. It’s also great that you found so much to do locally. We are lucky to stay in a beautiful, unspoiled area where the people are friendly and there is a good sense of community. We would be delighted to welcome you all back to Ballantrae in the future.

The accommodation is nicely finished and has all the amenities you would expect. The outdoor space wasn't great, it was a bit barren and surrounded by weeds. We chose it because we expected access to the coastal path and local beaches, but the path had been diverted inland and paths locally weren't great. Ballantrae has some useful facilities but isn't particularly scenic. A better coastal path in South Ayrshire would be an attractive feature for the area generally. The owners of the property were friendly and helpful and we were offered the chance to help feed the calves which was lovely. Any slight snags were dealt with. I think the property is a bit on the expensive side. However, it is also very quiet and peaceful, and the view of the sea was really nice to have.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay. The Byre has a sizeable, secluded, gravelled area for sitting/dining outside which is maintained to a high standard. There is also a separate area with parking for two vehicles to the side. The cottage itself is surrounded by natural farmland and there is direct access to our shoreline. The website photographs give an accurate representation of the outside space and I am disappointed that you felt this did not meet your needs. I'm sure that we discussed that our guests are welcome to explore our 220 acre farm. Unfortunately, you are the first visitors ever, who did not find the area and scenery spectacular. I am pleased, however, that you found our lovely village of Ballantrae had good amenities and enjoyed the tranquility and views of the sea from The Byre.

This is a comfortable cottage needs a few repairs now as getting a little tired, still of a high standard. Can I suggest the inclusion of a suggestions book where guests can input what they would like to see ie grab rail at toilet for the elderly radio in kitchen king size bed instead of a double Would definitely come here again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with us. I shall ensure that the high standards our guests expect, are maintained. Your idea for a suggestions book is great. Unfortunately, a king size bed is too large for the double room. I'm pleased you enjoyed your holiday overall.

Great property with good amenities. Peaceful location. Only criticism too many plates, wine glasses and picnic goods leaving little room for foodstuffs. Saucepans and frying pans need replacing.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your comments. I have had a look at the space for foodstuffs and have made sure that there is now a greater storage area. I'm glad that you enjoyed your holiday at The Byre.
