Description

This unusual yet comfortable cottage has been lovingly converted and is surrounded by fields and countryside.

Shared use of outdoor heated swimming pool (May to Sept)

These well-presented, unusual and comfortable holiday properties consist of a self-contained, ground floor wing of the owner’s detached, 19th-century home (ref 19586), set within its own grounds, and a detached cottage (ref 18104), set within the owner’s grounds. They have been lovingly converted from former farm buildings, and are surrounded by fields and countryside, which abound with wild life and bird life. Located adjacent to a working farm, this is an excellent, quiet location to explore and enjoy the diversity of attractions in the area.
Set in Meare on the beautiful Somerset levels, within easy driving of Glastonbury, renowned for its annual music festival and legendary Tor. Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Ham Wall RSPB Reserve and excellent walking on the Mendip Hills are also an easy drive. Enjoy a great day out to the historical, Regency spa town of Bath with its Roman spa bath, or visit the stately home of Longleat, home of Lord Bath and its safari park. Visit Stourhead Gardens (NT) and the traditional seaside resorts of Burnham on Sea, Brean Down and Weston Super Mare with their sandy beaches, ideal for sand surfing.
Local activities include a leisure centre in Wells, 5 miles, golf courses, cycling and a retail factory shopping outlet, 3 miles. Shop and pub 3 miles. Both Upside Down Cottage (18104) and West Down (19586) can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Unusual holiday cottage in a perfect location for birdwatching on the many nature reserves in the Somerset Levels, and exploring the surrounding towns and historic sights. Well-equipped, spacious and cosy, and the hosts are very helpful and welcoming. Some minor upgrading is required, and the upside down design can be challenging for elderly guests, but on the whole, this is one of the best cottages we have stayed at in the UK.

Fantastic accommodation perfectly located within a stones throw of Glastonbury. The hosts are lovely, very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. We will be staying here again.,

Overall we liked this cottage. The cottage had lots of character and the hosts were chatty, helpful and willing to share their local knowledge and access to their swimming pool. There were lots of walks from the village, but I missed being able to pop out to the pub or somewhere to eat without having to drive.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Upside Down cottage. Our hosts were friendly and thoughtful (coffee, tea, milk, sugar, wine and the most delicious homemade shortbread awaited us on arrival), the cottage was lovely and welcoming and our son had the best time at the swimming pool. We cannot wait to return.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped. Owners very friendly and helpful - we really appreciated the Wine, Milk, Tea and Shortbread on arrival which was a nice touch. Close to many places of interest so a good location.

We had a wonderful stay at upside down cottage. The owners made us very welcome and were on hand for any queries we had. The cottage had a great layout and the use of the pool was a great bonus. The owner asked us to ask before using the Pool as it was in their private garden. This also meant that as a family we had sole use of the pool. Overall a wonderful stay in a great location with lovely owners. We would highly recommend.

A lovely place to stay, with all one needs for comfort and coziness. Friendly/helpful owners on hand. We ate out most nights, but the cottage is well equipped for the nights we ate in.
