Dalton-in-Furness is a charming market town in Cumbria, just on the outskirts of the Lake District. Dalton is dotted with characterful old buildings, narrow streets, and quaint shops, giving it a timeless appeal that visitors find enchanting.
One of Dalton’s highlights is Dalton Castle, a historic 14th-century pele tower managed by the National Trust. Just a short distance from the town is the South Lakes Safari Zoo. Cumbria offers a wealth of attractions and natural beauty within easy reach. Just a short drive away, the Lake District’s famed lakes and fells beckon, with Lake Windermere, Coniston Water, and Derwentwater providing stunning spots for boating, hiking, and picnics.
Each lake is surrounded by charming villages—Ambleside, Bowness-on-Windermere, and Keswick—where visitors can enjoy cosy cafés, local shops, and classic pubs. For a historical day out, the picturesque village of Cartmel is known for its ancient priory and traditional sticky toffee pudding. Another fascinating site is Holker Hall and Gardens, a stately home set amidst beautifully manicured gardens, which welcomes visitors to explore its grand interiors and seasonal events. The coastal town of Ulverston, nearby, is famous for its lively festivals and for being the birthplace of Stan Laurel (of the comedy duo Laurel and Hardy), with a museum dedicated to the iconic comedian.
