Cottage was well equipped and scrupulously clean. It has a lovely little garden, three good size bedrooms and a good working kitchen. There is an extensive bookshelf if you forget your reading matter, and lots of DVDs; however I would have liked a few CDs to be able to play, given how difficult it was to find any clear radio stations. Robin, who looks after the cottage for the owner, couldn't have been more helpful - a big thank you to him! The cottage was convenient for all parts of the the Forest and the river Wye; all in all a great place to stay!

Second time staying here and we enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the first time.

We had a wonderful time. The cottage was well sized with comfy beds and homely. We would visit again. Location was perfect for trips out and the butchers arm was a nice local park. Lots of useful things for young families, cot, high chair, stair gate for top of stairs.

We had a great stay at this cottage which is a detached house in the lovely and peaceful village of Clearwell. It has a spacious and enclosed garden which was great for us and our dog. There are good walks around the village and a recreation ground which is good for dogs to run around in and where other local dog-walkers also go. The Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley are short drives away. Highlights for us included the Forest of Dean itself, the Wye Valley, especially a walk above Tintern Abbey which is thought to be where Wordsworth composed 'Lines Written Above Tintern Abbey'. We really liked the Lamb Inn which is only open at the weekends but where you can buy a pint of real ale for £2.85 and other drinks are inexpensive. The only reason 'local amenities' loses a couple of points is that although the Butchers Arms has a lovely terrace garden with a fountain and the drinks are reasonably priced we thought the food was over-priced so we didn't eat there. Most previous guests from the guest book seemed to think the food was very good there so maybe that's unfair. If 'fine dining' appeals there is also a restaurant next door to the Butchers Arms. All in all a great place to stay and venture out for spectacular walks.

The cottage was more spacious than we expected from the photos and very comfortable and well equipped. We had a few issues with equipment such as the TV (I had to phone the owner to find out how to make it work), the heating (I couldn't make it come on outside the timed hours) and the dishwasher (it worked once, then refused to work after that). However, these were minor problems and didn't detract from our enjoyment of the cottage and surrounding attractions.
