Devonshire Haven is ideally located for exploring Durham city with its famous cathedral and castle.

Devonshire Haven is situated in a residential area with the owner living next door, and is just 3 miles away from the centre of the popular cathedral city of Durham, and only a short 5-minute drive away from the main university campuses. This semi-detached house is in a superb location for exploring the city of Durham, County Durham and the north east. Durham city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most historic cities in England offering guests a plethora of attractions to visit and explore. The famous cathedral and castle take centre stage in the city and are definitely worth a visit. There is also the popular Gala Theatre and Millennium Square which are both in the heart of the city, making this the perfect spot for guests wanting to enjoy a theatre trip as part of their break. Packed with top quality restaurants, bistros, cafés and bars, Durham is a thriving city with plenty of entertainment for guests at all times of the year.

Guests have the opportunity to enjoy the bi-annual Lumiere Festival, annual book week, jazz festival, arts festival, miners gala and many more free attractions as well as the weekly farmer’s market and pavement artists that line the streets and market place. Should guests wish to enjoy a little retail therapy, they will find some beautiful boutiques along with many high street names and designer shops. Perfect for walkers and cyclists too, guests will find established footpaths and cycle ways that lead from the city and out along the River Wear and then beyond into open countryside and woodland. Durham County Cricket Club holds regular top class county and England games, as well as top class concerts and outdoor entertainment, and can be reached in under 10 minutes by car. Durham Golf Club is also only a short drive away as well as the pool and leisure centre at Freeman’s Quay for guests who enjoy a more sporting holiday.

A little further afield, but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to enjoy a day trip to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, or visit one of the many smaller villages in County Durham. There is also the opportunity to visit the Angel of the North statue which is only a 20-minute drive away, Beamish Museum, 15 minutes, Newcastle, 30 minutes and the Metrocentre, 25 minutes by car. The beautiful coastline of the north east can be reached within an easy 30-minute drive with the coastal town of Seaham definitely worth a visit, as well as Roker Beach towards Sunderland.
