Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Just yards from the secluded beach and with the benefit of two gardens to relax in and enjoy the views over the Solway Firth to Scotland.

Darcy Cottage is a comfortable, detached cottage which used to be two different quirky cottages and has now successfully been blended into one. Reached via a rough tarmac private lane, the cottage enjoys the benefit of two gardens, the front garden is fully enclosed, while the rear garden is open and is ideal for watching the dramatic Solway Firth sunsets. Darcy Cottage is just a quick scramble over the rocky sea defences onto the beach, and here you can paddle or fish on a secluded stretch of the Solway enjoying the views to Scotland. You can also sit and watch for seabirds and porpoises from the master bedroom. Set just outside Skinburness a few minutes north of the popular seaside resort of Silloth, where you can stroll along the coastal path. The Solway Firth coastline has plenty to entertain, from an award-winning aquarium, a toy soldier museum, amusement arcades, go karting, world class golf and even a 4 day music festival, Solfest! There is a small market on Thursdays in Silloth, and a car boot on Sundays, just out of town. Slightly further afield there is the great border city of Carlisle and the northern Lake District. Beach 30 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The cottage was well equipped but it was dated and in desperate need of some TLC. It was also a very small property and I’m glad there were only 4 of us in the group as I think if it had the recommended 6 it would have been too cramped. The sofas and double bed upstairs are very uncomfortable but the single beds were great. Location-wise there was not a great deal to do with kids. Lots of lovely walks but the advertised beach which was given so much hype was a let down as it is silty and rocky so no good to play on, walk on, sit on, or in fact do anything on. All in all it was a nice holiday but not one we would repeat.

Lovely cottage but we found that lots of pubs and cafes had odd opening times, like closing for lunch at 12.30! But the cottage was lovely

From beginning to end, there was nothing smoother about the booking, arrival, and departure. Set in the quaint little town of Skinburness, just a short journey away from Silloth where you can find all your local amenities, Darcy cottage is set overlooking the sea (if you're fortunate enough to have the room at the top of the stairs to the left, which I was), and is a 30 second walk from the sea front itself. It's stunning inside and out and the owner truly has thought of everything, with even a small part of the shed being dedicated to people staying at Darcy Cottage, and two private car parking spaces. I cannot rate this property enough, and I believe we as a family were so lucky to get to spend our lovely week there.

The location is great for walkers; however, there are no local eating places, only takeaways. Very tired nearby town.

The cottage was cosy, quirky and comfortable. The family ages ranged from 7 - 67 and suited all ages and the only reasons for not returning is Silloth itself. The beach was actually mud rather than sand and the location was too far from the Lakes.

A lovely clean cottage just yards from the sea. Well equipped, really quiet and a great walk for the dogs. Only downside was the downstairs bath room and the upper bedroom door banging on the bed due to small gap when opening. All in all a nice cottage for a relaxing stay

Lovely quiet location perfect for a get away from it all break. Lovely seaside plot with sea views. Good property to accommodate a family. Needs to be cleaned more thoroughly in between visitors. Although it is advertised as dog friendly you don’t expect it to smell like battersey dogs home. Gave it a good sweep and mop and removed the awful tattered smelly rug coupled with a few scented candles and it was fine. A great addition would be a log burner ! Overall good value for money 6/10.

The location and cottage were ideal for a dog owner. The place was very nice and the walks lovely. We enjoyed the lovely drives to Scotland, Keilder Forrest and of course the Lake District. The downstairs bedroom was great for my Mum. So peaceful and ideal for relaxing.
