Damson Cottage is an endearing holiday home in the north of Cornwall with many seaside resorts and fishing villages to explore nearby.

A beautifully appointed snug cottage within a small courtyard, just perfect for couples, with a cosy wood burner and hunting/game themed living room. This delightful cottage has a large bathroom with elegant roll top bath and separate shower cubicle, a stylish double bedroom with large fluffy white towels and dressing gowns provided, and a cosy single bedroom just perfect for a child, teenager or grandma! Set in a wonderfully quiet location, Damson Cottage is a gem, with a charming interior. This detached, stone built, single-storey barn conversion is located on the outskirts of the village of Withiel, just a 10-minute drive to Wadebridge and the Atlantic highway. The property has been stylishly furnished and would be a super ‘get away pad’ for people looking for a rural, quiet spot to relax after exploring the many wonderful places Cornwall has to offer. Outside, the large rear lawn is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying the peace and quiet of the country, and there’s also a secluded cobbled courtyard leading off from the large utility/boot room. Country pursuits such as duck flighting, deer stalking and salmon fishing are available, and taster sessions can be booked directly with the owner.
To the north-west, Padstow is home to an array of shops, pubs, restaurants and a popular cycle trail, and fans of Doc Martin will be drawn to Port Isaac, which is where the TV series was filmed. The villages of Rock and Polzeath are also well worth a visit, and further down the coast is Newquay, with its fantastic beaches and surfing opportunities. An afternoon spent exploring Cardinham Woods is a must for cyclists, Bodmin Moor offers some fantastic walking terrain, and the National Trust property Lanhydrock House is just a short drive away. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Great cottage. Great ambiance. Warm welcome. Roads are a challenge when you meet another vehicle. Adjacent properties can be disruptive when doing maintenance on a Sunday afternoon.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you. This lovely review means so much to our family run business and gives us a real sense of achievement, making all the hard work pay off- we cant thank you enough. We will definitely do everything we can to make sure that no busy bees are doing maintenance on a Sunday afternoon in the future, after all Sundays are for relaxing feeling fat and full after a big roast dinner. We hope to see you all again soon.

Spent a fabulous week staying at Damson Cottage, Very cosy comfortable feel to the cottage, large secure garden which our dog loved. All mod cons including washer and dryer , Approximately 10min drive to nearest town which had all the amenities you would need. Cottage had lots of information on surrounding areas, beaches etc which we found very helpful Would highly recommend staying here 10/10

The cottage itself is lovely and decorated well. Unfortunately, you couldn't open all the windows as the cottage is so old and the locks had become wedged (wooden windows). The cottage is very remote. You have to drive down some extremely narrow lanes to get to the place. Not ideal as the passing spaces are also limited. There isn't a nearby pub which is a shame. If you're into country walks and being cut off from the world this is the ideal place for you!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for the nice review, I am so pleased to see that you had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the cottage. The windows do all open, but the windows that can be accessed from ground level outside have locks fitted for extra security. The key is kept with the main set of keys for the cottage, so that it doesn’t get lost, apologies I should have let you know this on arrival. The cottage is remote, tucked away down the lanes in the idyllic peaceful countryside away from the hustle and bustle, a place where you can get away from it all and really relax. Unfortunately, much of Cornwall is accessed via narrow roads; it’s just part of the charm of being in the country. There isn’t a pub within walking distance, but there are several great local watering holes that you can be at within a 5-10 minute drive, and I would have been very happy to give you some recommendations. We love to keep our guests happy, and if you are ever in Cornwall again, we would be extremely happy to welcome you back to the cottage.

Overall we found the cottage rather disappointing. As my wife would say it was "on top clean". The bathroom although it looked lovely it had the smallest shower cubicle possible. Had a beautiful roll top bath, it was totally impractical for older people. The kitchen was well equipped and practical. The lounge area had runners on the carpets which were curled up at the ends and and had to be rolled up ans stored. I think 14 cushions and 8 throws on 2 settees rather excessive. The cottage was advertised as having a washing machine and tumble drier. both of which were faulty. the tumble dryer obviously not been checked as the condenser tank was full and the filter full and obviously had not been checked for some time. The machine did not dry the clothes. The only cleaning equipment was a vacuum cleaner which had not been emptied for some time. This is a great shame as it could be an ideal holiday destination attention to detail and care.

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are very saddened and surprised to see that you didn’t seem to enjoy your holiday and that you found the cottage disappointing, the last five guests to stay have all rated the cottage and their stay as a 10/10 experience. The shower is a standard sized shower unit, and I assure you no smaller than that, especially in such a large bathroom. This does not seem to have caused any of our other guests any problems previously. I’m sorry to see that you did not find the roll top bath very practical, this is usually a feature that people really enjoy when staying, and it is described and photographed in the property description. I have had no other complaints about the rugs and soft furnishings in the lounge; the cottage is decorated to a high standard so that it feels both homely and sumptuous. Many reviews have commented positively regarding the interior decor, and indeed lots of our guests enjoy cosying down on the sofas with a good book and plenty of throws and blankets in front of the fire, especially after a busy day exploring in the winter months. The washing machine and tumble drier were both working perfectly when I cleaned the cottage. However, if after my husband came down to show you how they both worked you were still struggling, we wouldn’t have minded another phone call. There is also a communal laundry room in the courtyard that you would have been more than welcome to use if you’d liked. I’m sorry to see that you found there to be a lack of cleaning equipment, we have had no previous feedback of this nature and indeed most guests come to kick back and relax and relinquish many of their normal cleaning chores. However, we do supply the vacuum, a broom, cleaning cloths and floor cloths with antibacterial spray. Both the sink in the boot room and the kitchen are equipped with fairy liquid and a new dishcloth and scouring pad each week, even though the property is advertised as a self-catering holiday cottage. The vacuum was blocked when you checked out, the hoover bag had become dislodged and the dirt must have been sucked into the main body of the vacuum during your stay. This was easily rectified but I wouldn’t have minded looking at it for you at all if I had known. On a final note I would like to add, what I find most disappointing about your review, is that you failed to mention any of the above during your stay. Despite myself and my husband endeavouring to make you feel at home and accommodate your multiple requests on more than one occasion, at no point were any further questions/requests given. We did hope that fulfilling your demands to provide extra cleaning materials, replace a toilet seat and glasses that had been damaged during your stay and provide additional straight edge tumblers to enable you to measure out whisky more accurately over the course of your stay would make your time in Damson more comfortable. I’m sure you are aware that in not raising your concerns during your stay gave us no opportunity to further enhance your time in the cottage. I would like to stress that the enjoyment and wellbeing of all our guests is of paramount importance and I can only apologise you didn’t find your holiday more pleasurable.

This is a wonderful cottage in a great part of Cornwall for walking. The owners have a dairy farm close by and could not have been more welcoming. There are no local amenities apart from a small shop on a campsite a mile away, this is not a negative as there are plenty of towns and villages close by, the positive is the silence, bird song and no street lights just stars.

A great country cottage, perfect location to explore Cornwall. Lovely wood burner to be cosy in the evening. Boot room was absolutely brilliant with the dog and the washing machine/dryer was invaluable! A fantastic week away. Thank you!
