This delightful cottage has a large bathroom with elegant roll top bath and separate shower cubicle, a stylish double bedroom with large fluffy white towels and dressing gowns provided, and a cosy single bedroom just perfect for a child, teenager or grandma! Outside, the large rear lawn is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying the peace and quiet of the country, and there’s also a secluded cobbled courtyard leading off from the large utility/boot room. Country pursuits such as duck flighting, deer stalking and salmon fishing are available, and taster sessions can be booked directly with the owner.
To the north-west, Padstow is home to an array of shops, pubs, restaurants and a popular cycle trail, and fans of Doc Martin will be drawn to Port Isaac, which is where the TV series was filmed. The villages of Rock and Polzeath are also well worth a visit, and further down the coast is Newquay, with its fantastic beaches and surfing opportunities. An afternoon spent exploring Cardinham Woods is a must for cyclists, Bodmin Moor offers some fantastic walking terrain, and the National Trust property Lanhydrock House is just a short drive away. Overall we found the cottage rather disappointing. As my wife would say it was "on top clean". The bathroom although it looked lovely it had the smallest shower cubicle possible. Had a beautiful roll top bath, it was totally impractical for older people. The kitchen was well equipped and practical. The lounge area had runners on the carpets which were curled up at the ends and and had to be rolled up ans stored. I think 14 cushions and 8 throws on 2 settees rather excessive. The cottage was advertised as having a washing machine and tumble drier. both of which were faulty. the tumble dryer obviously not been checked as the condenser tank was full and the filter full and obviously had not been checked for some time. The machine did not dry the clothes. The only cleaning equipment was a vacuum cleaner which had not been emptied for some time. This is a great shame as it could be an ideal holiday destination attention to detail and care.

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are very saddened and surprised to see that you didn’t seem to enjoy your holiday and that you found the cottage disappointing, the last five guests to stay have all rated the cottage and their stay as a 10/10 experience. The shower is a standard sized shower unit, and I assure you no smaller than that, especially in such a large bathroom. This does not seem to have caused any of our other guests any problems previously. I’m sorry to see that you did not find the roll top bath very practical, this is usually a feature that people really enjoy when staying, and it is described and photographed in the property description. I have had no other complaints about the rugs and soft furnishings in the lounge; the cottage is decorated to a high standard so that it feels both homely and sumptuous. Many reviews have commented positively regarding the interior decor, and indeed lots of our guests enjoy cosying down on the sofas with a good book and plenty of throws and blankets in front of the fire, especially after a busy day exploring in the winter months. The washing machine and tumble drier were both working perfectly when I cleaned the cottage. However, if after my husband came down to show you how they both worked you were still struggling, we wouldn’t have minded another phone call. There is also a communal laundry room in the courtyard that you would have been more than welcome to use if you’d liked. I’m sorry to see that you found there to be a lack of cleaning equipment, we have had no previous feedback of this nature and indeed most guests come to kick back and relax and relinquish many of their normal cleaning chores. However, we do supply the vacuum, a broom, cleaning cloths and floor cloths with antibacterial spray. Both the sink in the boot room and the kitchen are equipped with fairy liquid and a new dishcloth and scouring pad each week, even though the property is advertised as a self-catering holiday cottage. The vacuum was blocked when you checked out, the hoover bag had become dislodged and the dirt must have been sucked into the main body of the vacuum during your stay. This was easily rectified but I wouldn’t have minded looking at it for you at all if I had known. On a final note I would like to add, what I find most disappointing about your review, is that you failed to mention any of the above during your stay. Despite myself and my husband endeavouring to make you feel at home and accommodate your multiple requests on more than one occasion, at no point were any further questions/requests given. We did hope that fulfilling your demands to provide extra cleaning materials, replace a toilet seat and glasses that had been damaged during your stay and provide additional straight edge tumblers to enable you to measure out whisky more accurately over the course of your stay would make your time in Damson more comfortable. I’m sure you are aware that in not raising your concerns during your stay gave us no opportunity to further enhance your time in the cottage. I would like to stress that the enjoyment and wellbeing of all our guests is of paramount importance and I can only apologise you didn’t find your holiday more pleasurable.

This is a wonderful cottage in a great part of Cornwall for walking. The owners have a dairy farm close by and could not have been more welcoming. There are no local amenities apart from a small shop on a campsite a mile away, this is not a negative as there are plenty of towns and villages close by, the positive is the silence, bird song and no street lights just stars.

A great country cottage, perfect location to explore Cornwall. Lovely wood burner to be cosy in the evening. Boot room was absolutely brilliant with the dog and the washing machine/dryer was invaluable! A fantastic week away. Thank you!

Two adults and their much loved Jack Russell had a lovely, peaceful break in Damson Cottage. This is a delightful home from home, out of the way of the hussle and bustle. The outside space is divided into 2 really, a level courtyard and a lawn up a few fairly steep ish steps. There's a gate into the farm from the lawn so you need to keep your eyes open...it could be an exciting escape route for a small dog! The cottage is on a working farm so be prepared for that. There will be smells and noises from cows and tractors but you are really in the countryside. The stone walls of the cottage are very deep which made it cozy when we stayed and would keep it cool in the heat of the summer I would imagine. Damson is about 4 miles from Wadebridge and reached by some windy, sometimes single track lanes. You will need to reverse if you come face to face with a tractor! Decorated and furnished with a tasteful mix of the modern and old, we will definitely be back to Damson Cottage.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Wow thank you for the 5* review… We would love to welcome the two of you and your lovely dog back again soon.

Really enjoyed our stay at Damson, the cottage was beautiful and well equipped. Was in a decent location to explore north Cornwall coast and enjoyed walks along beaches and in the local area. Host was friendly and welcoming. We loved the bathroom especially the bath! However, we were disappointed with some areas of cleanliness; the cushions and blankets on the sofa were covered with dog hairs which aggravated allergies and the main bedroom had some mould which filled the room with a nasty damp smell with door closed. Apart from this no other complaints. We enjoyed our break. :)

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. I am so pleased to see that you enjoyed your break and stay at Damson Cottage. I'm really sorry that you found some issues around the cleanliness in the cottage, I personally do all of the changeovers myself and am very disappointed, as this is an area that I have always scored extremely highly on in previous reviews. You are the first guests to stay since October that have brought your dogs along with you, and the cottage has been cleaned multiple times since then. However, it is for this reason, and for guests such as yourself who may suffer from allergies to the dog hair, that I do politely ask people on check in not to allow their pets onto the soft furnishings, if at all possible, and to keep them in the boot room which has slate flooring and underfloor heating when wet and mucky from country pursuits. The cottage is incredibly old, dating back to the 1800s. As always with older properties, when staying, care does need to be taken to ensure that the house is kept well ventilated, and internal doors are kept open when possible to allow the house to remain well aired. Unfortunately if the house is shut up with windows left closed, and particularly if wet clothes are left to dry at the same time, the property will quickly become damp, easily within one week. I would like to reassure you that this would be the case with all character cottages of this age. We really appreciate your feedback, and will of course take your comments on board in order to continue providing excellent quality accommodation and high customer satisfaction for our guests. Once again, sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and if you are ever in Cornwall again, we would be happy to see both of you, your bump and your two dogs again.
