This is a beautiful cosy, homely and for us, Christmassy Cottage! We had a lovely Christmas stay and were very sad to leave. The cottage is spacious (it was only the two of us and our dog, but I could easily see how 4 people would be comfortable) and well equipped with plenty of crockery and utensils. It was clean and warm. We saw red squirrels in the road beside the house and the surrounding countryside, including a lovely beck, are breathtakingly beautiful. We walked from the cottage along well marked footpaths into Hawes and were made to feel very welcome at The Board pub. Having read the other reviews, I would simply encourage people to read the description of the property carefully before booking. It is an old cottage with sloping roofs which limits what can be done in terms of a shower. The description of the kitchen and layout of the property are accurate and give a good reflection of what to expect. The owner was helpful with queries that we had before booking ( including confirming that there was a large tiled entrance hall where we could safely store a bike) and left a lovely welcome basket. We made some lovely memories and would certainly go back.

Our 2nd stay at Dales Cottage. Location is perfect in a quiet hamlet near Hawes includes parking. Lovely and clean, warm in winter with a fab stove (and heating if necessary). Very comfy beds and plenty of hot water. Lovely for our pre-Christmas retreat. Always feel rested and well after staying here.

We had an extremely relaxing break at dales cottage. Ideally situated for our annual walking break, coupled with it's close proximity to cheese heaven in Hawes.

Upstairs was lovely with really nice beds, very clean, lots of hot water. Kitchen was very nice but unusual not to have a washing machine, nobody wants to spend holiday time in a laundromat. Sadly the lounge was a big let down, the table was permanently sticky and no amount of cleaning solved this problem, also the table legs were really dirty. The sofa and arm chairs were well passed their sell by date, they were grubby and uncomfortable also the lounge was dark and gloomy. For people with children there is no outside space for playing.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your feedback. I am sorry that you found the lack of a washing machine and the living room disappointing. The kitchen is very well equipped with a dishwasher and we do offer a free 24-hour service wash for all guests to use as detailed in the handbook. I would have been happy to provide this service for you if you had got in touch. We have very recently replaced almost all the flooring and beds in the cottage as well as updated the kitchen and we are planning to replace the sofa and chairs in the living room too. We will make this a priority. The sofa however as with all the items in the cottage is kept clean and the table is the living room is actually distressed with paint. Although there is no enclosed outside space which is stated in the details there is plenty of space away from the quiet road for children to play and thousands of acres of beautiful countryside for everyone to enjoy.

Beautiful cottage, very well cared for with everything we needed. Quiet and peaceful location but near to Hawes (within walking distance). Very helpful owner with personal touch.

Rather than rely on a rather arbitrary number scale exercise, we were basically very happy with the presentation and overall cleanliness and characterful nature of the cottage. Location is fantastic and convenient for shopping in nearby Hawes for basic provisions etc. We have taken a number of holidays in the Yorkshire Dales over the last several years and all have been enjoyable. The only negative issue was the lack of a proper shower facility. As configured, taking a shower is not easy or practical without the simple addition of a shower curtain. I'm sure this may not be an issue for a lot of younger guests or families with children where the bath would be okay for most but it does not work for the older generation, like ourselves, where a shower is almost a basic necessity! More than happy for the owners to be advised of our views. Would use again if this issue was addressed!

Excellently presented cottage in a great location close to all amenities in nearby Hawes. A very welcoming arrival pack of milk, bread, cheese and eggs and a very high standard of decor, furnishings and cleanliness. Strongly recommended to anyone wishing to get away from it all but still have an excellent pub within a mile! Would obviously re-visit
