Our stay in Cross Tree Cottage, Winterborne Stickland nr. Blandford Forum, was enjoyable. Cross Tree Cottage, is charmingly decorated, impeccably clean, tidy and with good amenities. The cottage is in a lovely village, with beautiful thatched cottages, ancient church, good pub, rolling green countryside with streams. Healthy fresh air, in short quintessential Dorset. A short drive from Blandford Forum, well worth visiting.

We needed to buy a few light bulbs the light over the sink also needed one, remote control for tv didn’t work. No logs for the fire For the price we expected a bit more TLC

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Our friend was looking after our cottage while we were away. She told us that, when you rang in the evening, she offered to supply lightbulbs the following day. In the morning the exterior lights were on, so she presumed you did not need further assistance. She said you informed her that evening, that you had managed to get the TV working through the TV itself. If we had been there we would have popped round to check all was well, so apologies for our less confident friend. We’ll brief anyone standing in for us in future to call out the person who helps with maintenance to double check if further assistance is needed. The light over the bathroom sink was working but it is worked by the pull cord in the light as well as a pull cord light switch. We have two cleaners who clean and change beds for four hours, after which we check that everything is as it should be. Anyone standing in for us is asked to do the same. We do not advertise that we supply logs but usually do when it’s very cold in winter or for special occasions, so this was unfortunately missed.

A very nice cottage but quite out of reach of any local interest. we probably didn't see the best of the area because of bad weather over Christmas. The accommodation was sufficient but bedrooms could have been cleaner. The kitchen facilities were fine. We appreciated the fact that our dog was welcome in the property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry the bad weather over Christmas has coloured your view of our country cottage and the local amenities. Our local pub is less than two minutes’ walk away. It is under new management and is so popular for food now that you have to book at least a day in advance. The world-renowned Milton Abbas is just over the hill. The Hambro Arms there is also much recommended. The Georgian town of Blandford Forum with its museum and many cafes is just a ten-minute drive away. Thank you also for the wonderful comments a member of your party wrote in our Guestbook.

This cottage is in a superb location for exploring the beautiful county of Dorset. It is exactly what you imagine a thatched country corsage will be. It is extremely well equipped and we found it very spacious for our needs (couple plus dog). The village is quite small and the only pub is a little basic, so if you want to eat out you need to be prepared to drive.
