Creag-Ard House, is a very impressive, beautiful Victorian mansion dating back to 1887. It sits in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The house sits in its own 3 acres of garden overlooking Loch Ard with stunning views to Ben Lomond. There is a small, attached cottage to the rear of the property which used to house the staff and is where the owners now stay. However, they are rarely in residence. They have access to the driveway but park at the rear of the property ensuring guests complete privacy and enjoyment of this amazing house. Guest have access to the grounds at the front of the property which is around an acre and a half.
Creag-Ard offers spacious and comfortable accommodation and makes the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside and visitors’ attractions. The area is abundant with historical sites, golf courses, castles, distilleries and wildlife. There is direct access into the forest walks and cycle routes from the house and fishing by rod is allowed from your own private jetty just across the road. Loch Ard is a wonderful place to kayak and a watersports center is located further up the Loch. The grounds of Creag-Ard offer a patio and barbecue area, plus a garden to explore. Ample private parking is right beside the house, off the road.
There are two bright and spacious living areas to enjoy. The first one is more of a formal lounge with wood burner, large sofas and stunning views over the Loch, and the second one offers an informal lounge come dining room, again with views of the Loch and plenty of natural light. The room offers comfortable sitting space in which to unwind and relax. Along the hall is fantastic well-equipped dining kitchen, which offers a large dining table and a large Aga. All six bedrooms have full en-suite facilities, and two of the bedrooms have lovely loch views. The other bedrooms overlook the garden. The utility/boot room is located at the side of the house and offers both washing machine and drying facilities, and is a good place to keep walking boots and coats.
There is so much to see and do during your stay at Creag Ard, from angling and fishing for the fishing enthusiast; Creag-Ard can offer private fishing on the banks of Loch Ard (free of charge). Nearby alternatives include the River Forth and the River Teith, where salmon and sea trout fishing is very popular. Just five minutes from the house, Lake Menteith (the only lake in Scotland, the rest are all called lochs!) is home to larger, hard-fighting rainbow trout.
During your visit to the scenic Trossachs, you can enjoy cycling along specially designated cycle ways and tracks, or walking – with routes ranging from a quick stroll around the loch to a 20-mile hike! Pony trekking and horse riding is also available locally. The area has an abundance of abbeys, cathedrals, historic houses and castles to explore, as well as magnificent gardens to visit. Just 1 mile away, Aberfoyle is convenient for banking, shopping and postal facilities, and the towns of Callander and Stirling are close by.
