Warm, cosy and in a great location, Cranford makes for a fantastic holiday in County Durham for families of 4.

Right at the heart of the village of Frosterley in County Durham, Cranford is the ideal location for guests wanting to escape from hustle and bustle of towns and cities. Situated in Weardale, Frosterley is located in the North Pennines and is part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beautifully furnished throughout, Cranford has a warm and comfy feel that makes it a great holiday home for couples, families and groups of friends. There are friendly local pubs in the village, along with a local shop and a family-run fish and chip shop just a hop, skip and a jump from your front door.

Perfect for walkers, cyclists and ramblers looking to explore the Durham Dales and the North Pennines, guests will find plenty of established local footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead directly from Frosterley, out into some of the most spectacular countryside County Durham has to offer.

Culture enthusiasts are sure to get a kick out of the lead mining museum in Killhope, which explores Weardale’s rich mining history. Then there’s the county town of Durham. The ancient city boasts a magnificent castle and a world-class cathedral. Thanks to its enchanting gothic architecture, the cathedral was used as the setting of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Other points of interest in the vicinity include the Beamish Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne, the Metrocentre, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Derwent Reservoir, and Alston which is the highest market town in England. The villages of Wolsingham and Stanhope are nearby, at 3 miles away. If you’re willing to go further afield, take a day trip to the Lake District, Northumbria and Hadrian’s Wall. Shop 20 yards, pub and pub/restaurant within 300 yards.

Beautifully presented cottage with all amenities. Lovely welcome pack on arrival, owners helpful especially with parking space on arrival. Would definitely recommend.

Smashing modernised cottage, well kitted out and really clean. The fact that it's on a main road means you have to contend with road noise and limited parking, the latter being well managed by the owners. As for the road noise, this is only a problem if you're inside a lot and we spent our time out and about walking along the river or up in the hills.

A lovely cottage but a bit small for us with one toilet an bathroom and found it weird not having a basin in the very cold toilet. The owners were lovely saving us a parking space on the busy main rd and leaving a very welcome 'welcome pack'. It was a very nice cottage and would recommend to anyone as good location and very clean, but a bit small for us and we would look for a different part of Count Durham to explore
