Description

Sitting in a peaceful location yet close to shops and restaurants, this lovely cottage is well placed for enjoying the New Forest and surrounding area.

Craigwen Cottage is a fine example of what happens when classic country cottage meets contemporary family house. Dating back to 1907, it’s a pleasure staying in a place like this: accessed by an unpaved track that’s typical of the area (twisting country lanes keep noise from cars to a minimum) in a rural location, the cottage is a fantastic introduction to relaxed country living within the New Forest National Park.

Bursting with flora, the gardens are a canvas of vivid colours, with a charming little footbridge and a secret garden with a secluded summerhouse at the back. Enclosed by tall trees and thick shrubbery, the property is well insulated from the outside world, you can enjoy cheese and biscuits with a bottle of wine outside without interruption.

The interiors boast attractive furniture and simple décor. An inglenook fireplace lies at the heart of the living room, whilst the kitchen/dining room is a bright and roomy social space thanks to ample natural light and whitewashed walls, drawing the eye to original wooden beams. Sumptuous bedrooms await you upstairs, that’ll tempt you into going to bed early and sleeping in late.

Once you’ve caught your breath with a few days’ peace and quiet, just 2 minutes’ walk away is the village of Burley, with its old-world charms, pick-your-own fruit farm and ice cream parlour. Roaming ponies and cattle can often be seen wandering through the village and the local area. The New Forest offers first-rate walking and cycling country with miles and miles of scenic paths and tracks. For something a little different, head to the sailing town of Lymington. A regular ferry service can take you to and from the Isle of Wight, or alternatively, there are many pristine, and often empty, beaches to be found along the south coast, so don’t forget a bucket and spade (complimentary beach towels are provided).

We loved the cottge and would recommend it, we never stay in the same area twice, hence why we would not come back. We feel the steep stairs should be noted, i am on crutches and so was a little akward. Its a very quirky cottage, yet plenty of room. Lovely kitchen and dining area, location pefect. The owner Andrea lovely. Lots of lovely fluffy towels, very comfortable beds. Kitchen very well equiped. A lovely holiday thank you.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for the great review Cheryl We have never thought that the stairs are that steep and the details were written up by the booking agent, but I shall certainly mention it to them in case future guests would be better suited in single floor property.

A truly lovely, comfortable cottage - you feel at home the minute you walk in the door. We only stayed for 3 nights, but we slept well and found the cottage to be very clean and well maintained. The location is superb - literally round the corner to the village centre with cycle hire, delicious fudge shop, tea rooms, 2 pubs and PONIES! Just walking around the village! Wonderful! Thoroughly recommend Burley and this cottage for a relaxing holiday in a wonderful part of the world.

Lovely homely cottage in a quiet location on the edge of Burley. I walked or ran on the local common everyday. The wild ponies were beautiful and they visited the town everyday. The post office / general store in Burley is friendly and useful. We used Waitrose in Ringwood for our main shop. We were received a thoughtful welcome gift of fresh bread, milk, eggs and even some cakes on arrival. Favourite days out included Lymington and Portsmouth (excellent shopping!) also Lyndhurst is lovely. The little cottage garden is a sun trap and there was everything you might need for a peaceful and relaxing week in the New Forest.
