Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Enjoy a family holiday from this well furnished, comfortable holiday home, ideally located for the Lake District or the beaches.

Cove Cottage is set in a quiet cobbled square just off the sea front in the popular village of Allonby. A two-minute walk will take you to the beach with views overlooking the Solway Firth towards Scotland. With its long sandy beaches and stunning views, it is easy to understand why this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a firm favourite with families. The cottage itself is very well furnished with comfortable beds, including a four poster. Being right in the heart of Allonby, there is direct access to the pubs, takeaways and a local shop (where you can get a famous Allonby whopper ice cream!). The Solway sunsets are spectacular, and on a clear day you can even see over to the Isle of Man. Allonby Bay is one of the Marine Conservation Zones - why not visit Maryport Aquarium to find out more about the local sealife and what makes it special. There are lots of other things to do in the area including go-karting, cycling the 26-mile Hadrian’s Cycleway, various museums, golf, wind surfing, sea fishing and the Solfest Music and Art Festival, plus Maryport Blues Festival are a few miles up the road. Slightly further afield is the ever popular Lake District, 26 miles, with beautiful scenery, passing Bassenthwaite Lake to Keswick. Alternatively why not go shopping in Cockermouth, only 10 miles, or Carlisle which is only 26 miles away. Beach 60 yards. Shop 50 yards, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

One step to entrance. Ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen with tiled floor. Open tread stairs to first floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, (one 5ft four poster), 1 twin with Velux. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Gas ’coal-effect’ fire in living room included. Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. 50" Freeview TV. Blu-ray. CD. Gas hob. Electric oven. Washer/dryer. Fridge/freezer. Small enclosed courtyard. Free car park, 30 yards. No smoking. NB: Emergency access required through courtyard.

Location not ideal. Very pleasant inside , apart from a VERY small galley kitchen. Fridge/freezer in corridor OUTSIDE of kitchen not a good idea. View from lounge window NIL. Brick wall of garage only 4 feet away. NO amenities in village for essential provisions.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review, we are pleased to see that our cottage was pleasant and comfortable for you. Although the fridge freezer is not in the kitchen, it is within the cottage and very easy to access. There are two windows in the lounge, and only one looks onto the porch. The other overlooks the square. It is a shame that you perhaps did not have a 10 minute walk to the other end of the village, where you would have found essential provisions including bread, milk etc. at Twentymans Ice Cream Shop. The village also has 2 pubs serving food, a takeaway and a café, for times when you don’t feel like cooking. Major supermarkets are only 20 minutes away by car. It was nice to meet you and your three lovely little dogs.

Stayed in this cottage for 4 nights, clean, tidy and cosy, especially as weather was not so good. This place has 3 bedrooms (2doubles and a twin) and a good size bathroom, and although kitchen is small it has everything needed for self catering. We won't go back only because we have been to the area twice before, but would certainly recommend for a quiet and peaceful stay.

This cottage is pristine from top to bottom. Straight into a good sized porch which was great for dog beds, coats and footwear, wish I had brought my bike as there was plenty of space . It looked like a new kitchen and bathroom . The bedrooms were beautiful and found it hard to choose which one to use. A lot of thought has gone into equipping the kitchen with everything you would need. I could live here. The location is fantastic, seconds from the beach, pub, chip shop and local shop. It is certainly an ideal base to explore the area. Following my stay I had to contact the owner as I had forgotten some clothing ,very kindly arranging to send it on. This was a lovely stay and hope to return.

Fridge/freezer is in a dirty alley outside of the kitchen. The courtyard is dirty and covered with slimy/slippy moss. The light for courtyard is help up by a washing line and is rusty and broken. It's unsafe in the courtyard.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. Our caretaker attended to address your concerns at the beginning of the short break. There was a small amount of moss, not unusual in the Cumbrian climate. Plans were made to scrub the yard. The security light was not tied up with a washing line, a guest had tied a washing line to the security light which had dislodged it, and this required an electrician. As you felt unsafe, and as your only use for the yard was to let your dog toilet, you were advised not to use it, until it was dealt with. The fridge/freezer is in a completely enclosed adjoining passageway which belongs to the cottage, it is kept clean and tidy - similar to keeping a fridge/freezer in an adjoining garage. We are pleased that you remained comfortable enough to stay an extra night in order to attend your meeting.

We had a really lovely stay in Cove Cottage. As a family with young children the location was perfect with the proximity to the beach and the size was adequate for us to use. The town was nice and quiet and the beach very peaceful. Proximity to the playground was an extra bonus!
