This light and spacious property, accessed by a single track road, is tastefully decorated with elegant furnishings including original artworks. It is the perfect base for exploring Romney Marsh – a unique corner of England where ’the sky is always three quarters of the landscape’ (John Betjaman). Courtside is ½ a mile off a country lane and adjoins the owners’ 16th century farmhouse. It is set in a beautiful garden surrounded by farmland and grazing sheep with far-reaching views south towards the coast and the medieval hilltop town of Rye, and west to the slopes of the Saxon shoreline. Fairfield Church, known as one of the most picturesque churches in the UK and a location for BBC’s Great Expectations, is a short walk away. Many other medieval Romney Marsh churches are within striking distance.Rye is well worth a visit for its cobbled streets and unspoilt charm. Camber Sands, with its water sports and 7 miles of beach, is a 15-minute drive away. You can bring your bikes and explore the local lanes, or hop on the Marshlink train to visit Hastings. Two nationally renowned vineyards are within a 15-minute drive. Steam enthusiasts can experience the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway which crosses the marsh or the Kent and East Sussex Railway from Tenterden. There are plenty of National Trust properties within easy reach including Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Bodiam Castle. The cathedral city of Canterbury is only 45 minutes by train. For greater adventure you can head to France for the day as the Channel Tunnel is only 40 minutes away, or take a pleasure flight over the marsh from Lydd airport.Locally there is a great selection of places to eat and drink from unspoilt, old pubs in nearby villages to bars with live music, bistros and restaurants in Rye, or fish and chips at Dungeness. Romney Marsh is a place of big skies, quiet lanes, easy walking and cycling, medieval churches, a history of smuggling, grazing sheep and birds such as herons, owls and harriers. Beach 8½ miles. Shop 2¾ miles and pub serving food 2¼ miles.
