This property is part of our French Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage.

Enjoy a family holiday at this lovely property which is an ideal base for touring the area, then return to relax in the grounds.

This lovely three bedroom cottage is set on the banks of the Somme Canal where you can fish (permit required), or watch the canal boats go past. Outside, the cottage enjoys a large well planted private garden, with petanque court, whilst indoors there are spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen/dining room, and a separate living room with a small sunny terrace overlooking the communal river bank. This famous area of France is steeped in history and there are many excellent museums in nearby Péronne and Albert. The area is famed for its wildlife and fauna including rare orchids found on the nearby Mont Frise. Climb to the top of Mont Frise with a picnic and experience panoramic views across the Somme River and its beautiful lakes. Cyclists will enjoy the 120km of dedicated cycle route alongside the canal from Saint-Quentin to Saint-Valery, or take a more leisurely stroll along the canal banks and see a myriad of wildlife including herons and rare butterflies. The owner, who lives on site, can arrange a private fishing lake for a small daily charge. Nearby cities to visit include Arras with its beautiful architecture and cobbled squares, Amiens for a wander around the impressive Gothic cathedral, or enjoy the restaurants and shopping in Peronne just a short drive away. Shop 13km, restaurant 5km.

This is a wonderful cottage which is well equipped and comfortable. It has everything you need in a home away from home and the owner is friendly and helpful. The only thing to note is that the nearest town is a few miles away, so no local bakery etc which is a shame. Location for outdoor activities such as cycling or walking with canal so close is excellent. Also close to cities of Arras and Amiens, both have Christmas markets although we found Arras to be the best of the two both worth a visit. We would definitely return to stay here

A very well equipped and beautifully presented modern gite in a totally peaceful and lovely location. Ideal for Fishing, Cycling (which we did) and walking etc. There was a good size shed to store our bikes, and with some very good map reading (our friends!) we did some lovely bike rides mostly on the flat, and often off-road. We came across some really good restaurants on our cycle rides, and if the weather is not so good, Albert and Peronne are well worth a visit. You will need a car as there are no local facilities, but this is more than made up for by the delightful surrounding countryside and the endless interest of the canal close by.

An excellent place to stay in a pretty location. Good accommodation in a well equipped, very clean gite. No local shops, bars or restaurants. Close to many WW1 sites. Owner was friendly and helpful.

Lovely cottage right next to the canal and lock. Friendly hosts, superbly equipped. Main British channels with good reception on TV. No shops or amenities in Frise but plenty within a few minutes drive. An ideal base for visiting all the memorials and museums in this beautiful area.

Superbly located for a tour of the battlefields. The property was wonderful. Very clean and packed with everything you might need to make your holiday very special indeed. The nearest town with Supermarkets was about 20 minutes away. We would definately stay there again if we were in the area. The owners were very friendly and went out of their way to make our holiday very special.
