Dating back to the mid-1700s, this mid terraced cottage has been thoughtfully restored to provide all the comforts one needs from a holiday home, including a woodburner. Located in the village of Salterforth, Cosy Cottage is the perfect retreat for couples wanting to explore the neighbouring counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire. Close to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Forest of Bowland (AONB), the area is ideal for those who love the outdoors, with lots of walking and cycling opportunities, set in stunning scenery. The village of Salterforth is located in the Pendle area of Lancashire, although it was formerly part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The Leeds Liverpool Canal runs through the village and there are some lovely walks and cycle paths along the canal into Barnoldswick and Foulridge. You could also take a trip on a narrow boat from one of the moorings. The local pub, which is situated on the banks of the canal, is very historic. Dating back to the 1600’s, the original pub was actually underground and you can still see this today. The lively market town of Barnoldswick is just over a mile from the cottage and here you will find a good selection of shops, pubs and cafés. Due to its location on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, there are lots of wonderful places to visit within easy driving distance. The highlights include the market town of Skipton (10 miles) with its castle, Haworth and Bronte Country (14 miles), Settle (16 miles) and Harrogate (30 miles). Manchester and Leeds are both around an hour’s drive. For those who prefer a coastal landscape, the Fylde coast, whose popular resorts include Blackpool and Lytham St Anne’s, can also be reached in around an hour. Shop and restaurant 1½ miles, pub 500 yards.

The cottage is looking tired, the sofa, chair, cushions, dining chairs and throws were all stained. The bathroom window leaked and water was all over the bathroom floor, I rang owners to let them know but heard nothing. The back door does not fit properly and there was a cold draft at all times also because of the very bad weather there was a constant whistling noise. There is no mobile signal and the internet (sky) can be patchy. Overall not a good experience.

We booked a last minute break. Some of the reviews are a little harsh. The cottage has everything you need to have a cosy break and is a home from home. Very good value for money. There is a well appointed kitchen, the house had everything we needed and we were very happy with the comfort offered. There was no issue parking outside the house, but if there had been there is parking up the street and a free car park near by. We had a lovely night with the fire lit making the cottage definitely live up to its name. The neighbours are friendly as are the staff in the local pub. Brilliant place to use as a base to explore and walk the area.

Pros: Warm, good quality bed linens. Cons: Lack of basic equipment (the following are expected and were missing -- 1 large pot, drainboard for dishes (for under dish rack), kitchen scissors, egg cups, knife sharpener, wash clothes for bath) and amenities (the following are expected and were missing (paper towels, cleaning supplies, hand soap in bath and kitchen, washing up liquid, Brillo pads, trash bags, toilet paper, etc. etc.) Some mold and damp near refrigerator located to far from kitchen. Upholstery needs cleaning. Bathroom towels were in short supply and ancient. The only salt was in packets from McDonald's and "hidden" in a plastic container where we didn't find them for days. No doormat for the back door. Back door drafty and needs weather stripping. Unclear which outside trash cans to use. BTW, the gutters need cleaning.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for the feedback. I must say I was expecting this review and we have already said sorry when we didn’t meet your expectation. The booking didn’t go well from the beginning when you interpreted contacting us 3 days in advance for entry details, as a text at 10am on the day of arrival and then were angry at my wife on the phone as we didn’t respond despite your numerous calls until later that day as we were working and had unfortunately thought we had already spoken to the guests at the cottage for that weekend. However we will look at your comments. For people reading this all guests will receive toilet paper, bin liner, washing up liquid, cloth scrubber, some tea and coffee sachets, milk, biscuits, starter wood and firelighter, but no bleach / cleaning stuff. We are happy with the condition of the towels and provide towels and tea towels and an oven glove. We will look into salt and scissors and if they have gone missing will replace them. The cottage is only small and the fridge is in the small cellar some would interpret this as quirky and clever use of space. There are glass and metal cooking pots / trays but not a pot ones and there is a plastic draining container which can be placed by the sink but no carved draining area by the sink. The photo of the kitchen is an accurate reflection. We accept bins are not clearly labelled and again are sorry these guests didn’t have a great stay.
