This cottage was ideal for us: very welcoming owners; quiet and separate from their house; large enclosed labrador-friendly garden; good dog-walks from house; very well equipped kitchen from which we could entertain friends; DVD and HiFi units; warm in winter and cool in summer; sole use of indoor heated pool in evenings. No extra charges. What more could one ask for?

Cottage was clean but looked a little "tired". Coffee table was wobbly due to broken leg, the shower door was not working properly and the grass was long and was cut on the day before we came home (after we came home from being out most of the day). We booked it as being "dog friendly" and are very respectful of peoples property when taking our dog away but were told not to let dog sit on sofa, go into the bedroom and not to leave dog alone in the lodge (but you do not have a choice if you want to use the pool). Owners were friendly and a nice touch of a small plate of cakes to eat on arrival but was tarred slightly by the "rules".

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We were very sorry to read that you were not happy with your stay at Cornhill Lodge. We pride ourselves on being responsive to our guests and sorting out any problems as soon as they arise. We did apologise to you at the beginning of your three night stay about the length of the grass and asked if you would mind if we cut it during your stay. As you know there had been a long spell of very wet weather followed by a couple of days of sunshine before your visit. As a result the grass had grown very quickly but was still too wet to cut before your arrival. We cut it as soon as we could, two days after your arrival. In our Guest Information Book we encourage our guests to alert us to any issues (after all we are just next door and can fix things very quickly). The coffee table is not broken, it is on a pedestal leg which can work itself loose so that the table becomes a bit wobbly; had you let us know we could easily have rectified this. Likewise the shower door can get a bit stiff sometimes but a spray of silicone gel to the runners quickly sorts it out. These things are checked before tenants arrive and we were not aware that there were any problems. The rules about pets are not ours, they are set out by Cottages.com and are stated in their booking conditions. Therefore these apply to all their properties as we do have to cater for non-pet owners too. We recognize that some pet owners allow their pets to sit on the furniture, so in our Guest Information Book we simply and politely request that use covers on the furniture if your pet is going to be on it, so that it does not get marked. As to leaving your dog alone in the cottage while you use our pool or go out for a meal, as previous guests will testify, we are always willing to be flexible if we are asked. Sadly we weren't.

Very good break. The cottage was clean well equipped and spacious. A great location for those liking to get out and about to visit nearby areas or as we like - plenty of dog walking possibilities. A major plus was the availability of a large heated indoor swimming pool with excellent changing and shower facilities. A few minor things needed to be fixed but these were pointed out to us on arrival with apologies as they were on the list for correction (none however were of great concern to us)
