"In rich rolling acres of natural grounds – just a riverside walk from the beach and sea . . ."

Just a mile or so from the beach and picturesque harbour at Lyme Regis, this attractive cluster of individually owned holiday cottages enjoys a peaceful setting in an area of exceptional natural beauty. Skilfully converted from a range of lovely old stone barns, they are surrounded by acres of pastures with abundant wildlife, including deer and badgers. Fitted and furnished to comfortable standards throughout, each holiday cottage is independently owned and has its own sunny patio at the front with peaceful and uninterrupted views over a picturesque pond and the countryside beyond. A lovely riverside walk leads to historic Lyme Regis, passing through wonderful countryside with no roads to mar the views. The rolling farmland scenery is easily enjoyed via the 28-mile network of local footpaths and bridleways, including the World Heritage Dorset Coastal Path (½ mile) and its spectacular Jurassic coast.
Accessible within 4 minutes by car or via a walk over fields and along the riverbank, Lyme Regis is one of England’s most memorable small towns. It is famous as the setting for both the story and film of ’The French Lieutenant’s Woman, with its harbour bright with boats, streets of elegant colour-washed buildings, lofty cliffs and a great sweep of sea. Inns, restaurants and a choice of shops can be found amongst the town’s attractive jumble of narrow streets, and it is a notable water sports centre. Motor boats can be hired, and there are fishing trips, a sailing school and club, and a wind-surfing school. There is also a sports complex at Axminster (4 miles) which offers swimming and other facilities. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country: Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626-ft Golden Cap, a breathtaking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre NT estate, is the highest point on England’s south coast, a World Heritage Site. An easy drive to Bridport, Honiton, Sidmouth, Exeter and Dorchester. For families there are many lovely beaches close at hand, and a theme park (Crealy Park) near Exeter. Lyme Regis golf course is within ½ mile and visitors are welcome to use the golf course, or to visit their bar and restaurant. Each cottage has a comprehensive information folder giving details of local pubs, restaurants, shops, walks, excursions and many interesting facts about Lyme Regis and finding fossils along the Jurassic coast. Shops 1 mile.

The cottage not one of my favourite, a little on the chilly side in the evenings and the shower was a bit temperamental with the water too hot on several occasions.

We had a really lovely holiday in Columbo Cottage! Firstly its a lot bigger than it looks in the pics and is a really comfortable space. The living area was more than big enough for three adults and one child (mummy, daddy, son and nanny) The kitchen equipped for 'proper' cooking and the dishwasher came in so handy! I also loved the fact that the washing machine was a dryer also, this meant I didnt have to have washing everywhere or take damp towels down the beach the next day! The bedrooms are basic but has everything you need. The bathroom has been renovated since the pic on the website and is lovely. Location wise there is literally NO shops and is a good walk/small drive to the nearest (which I think is actually in Lyme Regis) but that's ok as this cottage is a much cheaper option than staying on the seafront. There are horses just outside the cottage and its in lush countryside! The walk to Lyme Regis is quite difficult as its on a steep hill and there is NO parking in the seafront in high season ie all the spaces are taken (seriously, I drove down once and went back to the cottage after 30 mins of looking) so I would advise this cottage to people with good mobility. Lyme Regis a AWESOME and there are soooo many things to do within a half hour drive of the cottage. There was a really helpful box of tourism leaflets in the cottage which we looked at every day for ideas. Location wise DO NOT use the directions on the website/email they are awful! The entrance to the cottages if off Charmouth Road, opposite the entrance to the Park and Ride. Look out for a metal farm gate and the entrance to the little road that leads to the cottage is on the left of the gate. There is NO sign on the gate area which seems daft but once you know where it is its fine. There are a few gripes which the owners need to look at- not all the Velux windows upstairs had safety chains which meant I have to move my young son's bed away from the window as they dont lock either. This needs looking at as its a family cottage and the windows open horizontal to the roof. The hot water was a bit of an issue- at one point it ran out one evening even though no one had had a shower or bath. And the shower tap is really hard to control meaning you risk having a scorching shower and not being able to change it at all (even with 10 mins of twiddling it) I have noticed a few gripes from other previous reviews that seem to not have been looked at so I would suggest the owners did a litttle check of the small things on these reviews. But all in all we loved our time there and would def stay again. Not sure why some of the other super negative reviews have been made as its a lovely good value cottage in a FANTASTIC area.
