Copingers Cottage takes its name from ’Cruel Copinger’, a notorious 18-century smuggler that once lived here. This delightful, spacious, semi-detached, ground floor cottage is the perfect romantic coastal retreat, nestled within an idyllic rural setting, just a mile from the coastal path. The cottage sits in a peaceful location at the head of the famous Spekes Valley with its majestic waterfall cascading down a shear rock face 60ft, through a series of four smaller falls before finally reaching the sea. There are beautiful views, countryside and walks from the doorstep with an abundance of birds and wildlife to be seen.

Copingers Cottage is beautifully presented and has a spacious living room and cosy wood burner to curl up beside on a cooler evening, along with a private patio to enjoy an al fresco supper on a summer evening. This pretty barn conversion sits within the Hartland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the North Devon coast with many dog friendly, long sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore, where occasionally dolphins can be seen frolicking in the Atlantic surf.

This is an ideal location for touring, walking, beaches or just relaxing. The timeless village of Hartland is only 1½ miles away and has a good selection of village shops and pubs serving food along with a post office, general store, bakery and craft shops. The hamlet of Stoke and the church of St. Nectan, known as the ’Cathedral of North Devon’, is just a short walk and the view from the church tower shows Hartland Abbey set in this beautiful valley with its many enchanting and delightful walks. Bude, 13 miles, has a good selection of shops and restaurants, many specialising in locally caught seafood, along with a golf course, indoor ’splash’ pool, surf schools and bowling. The delightful port town of Bideford, 15 miles, has a good selection of town amenities, restaurants, a weekly market and boat trips to Lundy Island. Coastal walking, cycling, golf, horse riding, fishing, surfing and sailing are all available in this stunning area. Docton Mill, Hartland Quay and Hartland Abbey are close by, along with many pretty fishing villages to explore including nearby Clovelly, Instow and Appledore. Beach 1½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

This was the ideal holiday home for my dog and I. We could walk in the fields or take a short drive to beaches or reservoirs for longer walks. Sonia and Dennis are delightful hosts and we couldn’t have found a more welcoming home.

Had a lovely relaxing week at Copingers. Sonia and Dennis are very friendly and welcoming. Set in beautiful countryside with the coast just a couple of miles away and the village with shops, pubs and fish and chips about a mile away. The cottage is very well equipped, even down to bowls and towels for the dog.

Copingers is bar far the best place we have ever stayed. Every possible need has been thought of and catered for. Kitchen is well equipped, lounge very comfortable, bedroom large and airy and excellent bathroom with a soft close toilet seat ! The whole place warm, comfortable and dog friendly. Dennis and Sonia are the perfect hosts and left us home made scones, jam and cream to welcome us with milk in the fridge. What more could you ask?

Very comfortable. Disappointed not to use wood burner but too hot! One of the most comfortable beds I have slept in.

The cottage is very spacious and very well equipped. The cream tea was wonderful and most welcome. The enclosed garden is small, but private. There is good walking in the fields behind for the dog. The long drive from the road is very pitted, so care is needed.

Cottage is suprisingly large but well set up and very comfortable. We had a very warm, friendly welcome and enjoyed a relaxing week in absolute peace and quiet. LOVED the fact that dogs are actually welcomed - this is definitely a dog friendly cottage. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

What a wonderful find the location is so quiet and the hosts so welcoming it felt like home from home. My dogs loved staying they were very relaxed and the added bonus of being able to walk straight out the door the take them for a walk a real treat. The kitchen was well stocked to make anything and the welcome cream tea on arrival lovely. I am already planning on going back.

Really great cottage, better than we expected - and we had high hopes! Booked a week away in December and what a lovely, cozy place to come back to after a day walking - log burner is excellent. Cottage has everything you could need and really well paid out, plenty of room. Loved it.

We had THE best week at Copingers with our dogs Steve and Jimmy (white paws). Can honestly say the cottage was the best dog friendly cottages we've stayed in and we've stayed in a few! To be able to walk, with the boys off their leads from the door and then for miles was so wonderful! The cottage had everything we needed and more - stunning kitchen, cosy lounge with a lovely log burner and a luxury bath tub! The owners were wonderfully kind and attentive without ever being imposing. We fell in love with Instow and the lovely dog friendly beach and walked miles on the picturesque Tarka trail. All in all, a week we will never forget and the area and cottage we are looking forward to return to as soon as possible.
