Accessed either by the rear garden or by the stone steps via the main courtyard (the latter not currently advisable for unsupervised young children), Granary is a charming small cottage that sleeps up to three guests, with a double bedroom with garden access and a comfortable single. There’s an open plan lounge/kitchen/dining space upstairs, and there is also an interconnecting door with Dovecote Cottage which makes it perfect for a group of up to eight guests when booked together. Wi-Fi is available but at times it is a bit slower paced, just like time feels when on holiday in this region.
Things to do here include horse riding lessons for beginners or returning riders at the site’s excellent stables, then there’s the lovely outdoor swimming pool with changing facilities and a games room with a pool table and table tennis table. If you fancy a fresh, tasty coffee made by someone else then pop down to the stable-side Horsebox Café and say hello to some of the resident animals too. Nearby is the friendly local inn where you can enjoy a drink or an evening meal; they even serve breakfast. Just give them a call the day before to book a table and a hearty fry-up will be waiting you in the morning. If you’re after some retail therapy, South Molton market town is about 3 miles away with independent shops, as well as a country market every Thursday and Saturday mornings with up to 70 local produce and artisan stalls. A perfect place to pick up supplies (and treats!) before returning to your lovely Devonshire retreat. Collacott Farm is located under 10 miles from Exmoor National Park and just 14 miles from the regional capital town of Barnstaple with its many cafés and restaurants, Queens Theatre, multi-screen cinema, leisure centre with swimming pool, a purpose-built tennis centre with indoor and outdoor courts and an indoor trampoline centre. Less than an hour away is the historic city of Exeter.
