Description

There is so much to do here, from panning for gold to watching the salmon leaping, you’ll be sure to return!

Quiet, peaceful location

This detached cottage nestles at the foot of the Lowther Hills surrounded by breathtaking scenery and open countryside. Renovated to a good standard with a children’s play park, the property provides a peaceful, tranquil location and an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. Try your hand at gold panning at Wanlockhead Mining Museum situated in the lovely Mennock Pass, a really good day out. Visit Drumlanrig Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, open to the public. River fishing is available with day passes available in Sanquhar, as are many interesting walks for the less ambitious walker. For the golf enthusiast there are many local golf courses and the area is also very popular with walkers, due in part to the Southern Upland Way passing nearby. One of the favourite walks is the Euchan Walk and if you are lucky you will see the salmon leaping in this tributary of the Nith. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Fantastic cottage in an amazing location. Very comfortable and clean inside with lots of outdoor space for children and dog to play. It is in a very quiet and tranquil location. You need to be prepares to travel from this cottake, however there are many walks nearby. We will return to this cottage.

We had a fantastic stay here last week. The cottage was spacious and immaculate and we instantly felt right at home. Rachel was really friendly and helpful with any questions we had and the welcome package was really appreciated. Apart from a few little niggles (no outside rubbish bin or sweeping brush in kitchen) the cottage is really well furnished and equipped. The layout of the cottage was great for my toddler to roam about and there were loads of toys, books and games to keep our 3 kids happy, as well as a bluray player and Wii console. The grounds were fantastic and very well kept. Great having so much space to run around, play football/rounders etc and it felt so safe as it was all in sections and gated/fenced. The swingset play area is a real bonus. Having the river and hills to explore on our doorstep was brilliant and we enjoyed walking, paddling and pond dipping, seeing plenty of wildlife such as mink at the river and even hares bounding across the garden. The gas BBQ was handy for making the most of the brief moments of sunshine! Sanquhar is a nice village, with a lovely little duck pond, but there's not much in terms of eating out/shops. We did have a lovely meal at the The Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel in Thornhill though. There's plenty to do within an hours drive - the chocolate factory, Drumlanrigg castle and the red kite feeding station were our highlights. While its nice to be disconnected from social media etc for a while, not having any WiFi or Internet signal was a bit of a hassle at times so definitely do your research beforehand on places to visit /directions/weather forecast etc. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely like to return.
