This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Perfect for a gathering of friends, or a special family occasion, Cobden House provides delightful accommodation for guests wishing to escape and explore the area.

Set back from the road in the popular village of Lakenheath, architect-designed Cobden House provides light and airy accommodation for guests who are looking for a quality escape and to explore the area. This detached property has floor-to-ceiling windows that define one of the walls and open planned living spaces that are designed to let the light flood through the property. This is a great place to return to after a busy day sightseeing. Close by lie the market towns of Newmarket, with its famous races, and Bury St Edmunds with its National Trust priory and gardens. Making time to visit the university city of Cambridge is a must, where many walking and punting tours await, as well as museums (including The Fitzwilliam) and a variety of places where you can shop and eat. Norwich, with its magnificent Norman castle and numerous museums, and the Hanseatic quarter of old Kings Lynn make for further days out. Closer still lies Ely with its cathedral, long described as the ‘Ship of the Fens’, and its stained glass museum. For a change of pace and some sea air, you can be in Hunstanton in just over an hour. Here you will find a small fun fair, a Sealife Centre, Norfolk Lavender and lots of traditional seaside shops and amusements, not to mention a beach which, when the tide is out, really does seem to go on forever. Those wishing to stay closer to home will be spoilt for choice too, since High Lodge Thetford Forest, with its many walking and cycling routes, and Go Ape are both nearby. Lakenheath itself has so many places to eat that guests can literally walk to a different restaurant or café each night. And for those wishing to cook at home and enjoy the ambience of Cobden House, there’s a well-equipped kitchen and a light and airy dining space. Alternatively, there is a completely private, enclosed garden which the owners have named ‘The Secret Garden’ to relax and dine in. All of which make Cobden House a great choice for your holiday.
Visit Newmarket races, 8 miles; the market town of Bury St Edmunds with its priory and gardens (National Trust); the famous backs and universities at Cambridge; the pretty town of Ely with its waterside pubs; walking and cycling in Thetford Forest, and the Suffolk Heritage coastline. Golf, horse riding and fishing nearby. Shop and pub 250 yards, restaurant 150 yards.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cobden House - perfect, spacious facility for 4 adults, 4 kids (aged 8-14) and 2 dogs.... Fully enclosed driveway and gardens meant the dogs could run free, and the house was well equipped & comfortable. Our host Diana made us feel welcome, and was on-hand to answer our questions and queries.

We were in the area for a family wedding. The house suited our needs for the weekend. Parts were very comfortable. We particularly liked the kitchen area that was large yet cosy for family gatherings. The beds were very comfortable & bathrooms were decorated well. Parts of the house smelt musty and were in need of a little TLC. The downstairs bathroom & utility were dated. As was the annexe room. The large storage area next to the annexe room would be very good if utilised as another bathroom. A long walk to the toilet in the middle of the night!
