Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Ideal for a rural escape, Cobble lies surrounded by countryside and lies amongst beautiful woodland.

Tucked away this little cluster of imaginatively converted stone barns. Tawnawood is a spacious two-bedroom property that sleeps 6. There is a large sitting room with feature wood burner within a slate hearth fireplace. The extensive kitchen is fully fitted and has a dishwasher, large dining table and hand-made seating benches. The staircase has handmade spindles and banisters and both bedrooms have vaulted ceilings. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and the second bedroom twin beds. There is a double sofa bed in the living room and the barn has a large family bathroom. Cobble is a one bedroom cottage with an open plan living/dining room/kitchen. The barn has unique features such as vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. In addition to the bedroom, the living area has a double sofa bed. Nuthatch is a one bedroom cottage with an open plan living room and kitchen. It has unique features such as vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, and a host of quirky wooden handmade features makes this a truly unique barn. The barn enjoys a private enclosed patio, offering fabulous valley views. All the cottages have internal hand-made doors, beautifully crafted handles, all wood sourced from the property’s own woodlands.
The cottages are positioned just beyond the owners’ home and surrounded by 20 acres of peaceful private woodland and fields and are accessed via a ½ mile driveway up through the woods. Pheasants, hawks and buzzards may sometimes accompany your drive up through the woods and in the spring a carpet of bluebells cover the ancient woodland. The barns enjoy a delightful position overlooking the Glynn Valley and Lanhydrock Estate, and the barns and the immediate surrounding area were chosen as a film set for Ella’s journey, due to be screened in 2018. The countryside is undulating and lightly wooded and thought by some to be the most beautiful in the county. The situation is as idyllic as it is convenient, being central to everywhere in Cornwall, accessible to local amenities and out of the county without miles of winding lanes, but just distant enough from the outside world to be a quiet rural retreat.
These three stone barns are dated mid 1700’s and have been lovingly converted using elm and oak from the surrounding woods, and offer a rustic quirky and charming interior. Each barn is unique and is full of interesting architectural features making the interiors appealing and offer a lovely warm welcoming ambience. Surrounded by pleasantly landscaped gardens and wonderful valley views from their own patios, they are ideal for couples looking for a perfect hideaway and for families seeking a secluded spot away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Yet, just a 3-minute drive will take you to the A30 making exploring the whole of Cornwall very accessible. A 10-minute walk down the drive and along a country lane will take you to Cardinham Woods, with its café, cycle trails and woodland walks, with stunning view points along the way. The woods are extremely popular with people of all ages and abilities, whether you enjoy a leisurely stroll or bike ride with your children; or for the more energetic a long hike, or for the hardy mountain biker the 12k Bodmin Beast Cycle Trail!
Beaches of both the north and south coasts are about 15 miles away, some popular and offering fishing, sailing and surfing, others small and secluded; the coastal path is a continuous drama of cliff and sea and sky. There is excellent walking and cycling in the surrounding area, and the Longdowns bridle way runs past the barns. Restormel Castle and Lostwithiel are both 4 miles away, and Bodmin, 3 miles, has shops, cycle hire, swimming-pool, sports centre, inns, restaurants and golf. Bodmin Steam Railway can be heard in the distance within the valley and riding is available locally. Wadebridge and Camel Trai...

Great location, run by a pleasant hard working couple. If you enjoy walking, cycling, beaches and moorland this place is ideal. Lovely quiet area in a fanastic woodland setting. The Cobble is a great base from which to explore Cornwall.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you, great that you both enjoyed your stay. We will not forget you two running up and down the long hill that is our driveway. You probably encountered more than just the pheasants. Hope to welcome you again in the future.

Fantastic place, so remote and so close to nature. No traffic noise. We will go again and also hope to take family with us, ideal for the grandchildren, no traffic to worry about. Also public footpath runs through the site and up and over the fields adjoining. Wi-Fi is not to good but we understand that will improve in the near future. Mobile phone's work OK.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; So glad you enjoyed the peaceful location, surrounded by beautiful woodland and fields. We are working with BT on getting broadband installed, albeit a long waiting time. Hopefully when you come back with extended family we will be fully up to speed. Look forward to welcoming you again.

Having an elderly dog with wobbly back legs we chose Cobble because it was carpeted and thus safer for him, thank goodness for Barney (the dog), we found a hidden delight. The weather was incredibly hot during our week but Cobble, being surrounded by farmland and woods, was cool and a welcome retreat each evening. Cobble was clean and comfortable, all the equipment we needed was provided and all in good working order. The new owners were delightful to us and Barney, making this a very enjoyable stay in the middle of Cornwall, ideal for exploring the whole of the County.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Great to hear you all had a good time and enjoyed Cobble, our little retreat, especially Barney who was a delight to have stay. Look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
