Description

Chesil Cottage is brilliant for that fun filled family holiday. Take a trip to Weymouth beach for a great day out!

Located in a charming and secluded environment on the UNESCO Jurassic Heritage coastline, Coastline Cottages have been converted to a high specification and are well-equipped with lovely woodburners. Situated 100 yards off the main road, the cottages are set in a quiet location, each with its own patio area and communal garden, within easy walking distance of Chickerell. The lovely Victorian seaside town of Weymouth is a few miles along the coast, where children can enjoy the sandy beach, or why not enjoy a sea fishing trip from the harbour? The RSPB has two reserves nearby - Lodmoor and Radipole Lake, the latter having an information centre as well as nature trails where grebes, swans, warblers and other species of birds may be seen. The swannery at Abbotsbury provides the opportunity to observe the resident colony of mute swans, which has been in existence since the 14th century. From late May, visitors can walk around the nesting area, observing the cygnets at close quarters. Another attraction at Abbotsbury are the sub-tropical gardens, which flourish in a site protected from the cold winds. Here species rare to Britain - such as Japanese camellias and Caucasian Wing Nut tree - can be found. A drive west from the cottages along the coast road is a delight, where the outstanding views and ‘chocolate-box’ villages can be admired. Golf and fishing available locally. Shops ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Separate toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 2ft 6in twin, 1 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

All properties: Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Electric central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and highchair. Three TVs. DVDs. CD. Microwave. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed patio with furniture. Parking. No smoking.

Great house, everything we needed. Well kept and clean. Upstairs bigger than expected and nice patio and lawn area too. Location good if you want to be away from centre but close enough to get in. 10 mins drive to Weymouth. 5 - 10 mins walk to bus stop shop and pub.

This cottage did exactly what we needed it to. The enclosed patio was a suntrap and perfect for small children; the bedrooms were fine (although we had to do a bit of manoeuvring to fit the cot in the second bedroom); the kitchen had everything we needed. It would have been good if the curtains/blinds in the bedrooms had been a bit more effective (one was broken and the other was really thin): we had to rig up towels over the windows to keep it dark and avoid 4am wakeups from the offspring! Oh and some hooks to hang coats etc downstairs (perhaps we just didn't spot them!). But overall this cottage was fine and we would stay here again. It's a great location for accessing the Jurassic coast. The owners were really flexible about our late arrival too.
